Congratulations Terry! Watch for an email from the farm so my sis and I can send you a bedroom full of colorful chenille flowers.

And the original post was:

We found our way to New York City again this year. Staying in Manhattan and negotiating the taxi cabs and subways turned into a fun adventure every time we left our snug little hotel room.

NY-pic-7

We visited the Museum of Natural History (loved it!) …

NY-pic-3

the American Girl Doll Store, the Legos Store, a Whole Foods Store (to supply our kitchenette with food for the week), and spent lots of time in Central Park.

NY-pic-6

It was warm when we arrived so we bought new flip-flops …

NY-pic-2

and ate the biggest desserts ever at Serendipity!

All the while, Dad was busy at Market Week in the fabric district in lower midtown of the big city. We did meet up with him and the wonderful crew we work with, also a family-owned business. They even have a new little addition to their family, too. My sis and I are starting to be the big kids of the bunch!

While Dad wore his tie all week, we showed up proper, in our farm boots, of course! But my sis and I are pretty sure they’re happy to have real farmgirls add an authentic touch to their showrooms.

Oh, and speaking of …

Would you like to get your hands on one of our chenille bedspreads? Because I’m giving away one of Nanny’s MaryJane’s Home Chenille Queen Bedspreads (this one is called Colorful Chenille). I’ll even toss in two standard pillow shams and one decorative pillow that are sold separately. (Don’t worry. If you don’t win, you can find our bedding at Belk.com. The Colorful Chenille bedspread hasn’t been released yet, but will be soon!)

Leave a comment here telling me what your favorite piece of fabric in your house is (mine is my blankie that I’ve had since I was born), and we’ll enter your name in our GIVEAWAY. We’ll put you in a hat (I mean your name) and pull out a winner … stay tuned for that! Meanwhile …

  4. Christi Head says:

    Awesome competition!

  12. Kay says:

I have two favorite pieces of fabric actually. One is a dresser scarf that I embroidered and my grandmother crocheted the edges, and the other is a pair of pillowcases that my other grandmother embroidered and crocheted the edges. They are both deceased so they are even more special now.

My favorite fabric is a pair of pillow cases which are hand embroidered and crocheted. One of my aunts made them for me about 60 years ago and although they are very worn, I still cherish them.

  23. Alice - Farmgirl #12 says:

Fun to read about your recent visit to New York. It brought fond memories of when three of us Farmgirls from Connecticut met you and MaryJane in NYC in May 2010. Believe it or not, my favorite piece of fabric is flannel. There’s nothing like the cozy, comfortable feeling of well-worn and soft flannel during the chilly weather!

  24. Chrissy says:

My favorite? I have a pair of pillowcases my Mom’s mother made with crocheted edging. She died when my Mom was seventeen and it’s nice to have something tangible from her.

  25. Kay (Old Cowgirl) Montoya says:

I just love velvet. In my day I always had a chenille bed spread on my bed. I think chenille was the poor person’s velvet. That is why I like both.
I have not had a chenille bed spread for a long time and would dearly love one now that I am starting my life over at 71 years old. Also to have the shams and throw pillow would just be the icing on the cake.
    Thank you for this oppirtunity
    Kay

  26. Sheron hamilton says:

One of my favorite pieces is a quilt I found at a garage sale. The colors are moss green and rose, one of my favorite color combinations.

  27. Lynn Sanders says:

I have family quilts I love so cotton is my favorite fabric.

  28. Debbe Titus says:

My favorite fabric is flannel. I love cuddling in my flannel sheets. It’s a sad day when I have to exchange the sheets on my bed for cooler summer cotton sheets. I even have a flannel comforter. Yes, I love flannel!

  29. Did you know that chenille is the French word for caterpiller ? How apropos. Oh, this will be a difficult choice! In a previous life, I was an antique dealer specializing in textiles, so my house and cupboards and trunks are filled with fabric items. Some of my favorites: the whole cloth late 1700’s calico quilt from my Aunt Mignon. I got all her family’s hand woven linen bedsheets from the early 1800’s complete with each owner’s initials embroidered in red in the corner. There are wool hand woven coverlets from PA and WV dating to the mid 1800’s. I still use these on my beds in winter, very very warm. Unlimited boxes of hand embroidered linens, scads of crocheted doillies, and old silk shawls with foot long hand tied fringe. A mint condition CHENILLE bedspread from the 1940’s with huge peacocks on it, very showy and colorful, just the softest and brightest chenille I have ever seen. I drape it over my couch in deep winter when I need a shot of color and fun.
But my favorite fabric? Probably the hand made doll clothes my mother made for my “woman doll”, a Madame Alexander 24″ doll. She designed and sewed all her own clothes ( these days she would have been a clothing designer for sure) These were all miniatures of her outfits using the scraps of fabric left over. A perfect lineup of fabulous 50’s outlandish designs from my mother’s imagination.

  30. Ashley Delo says:

My favorite piece of fabric is still my “little boy daddy sheet”, nicknamed as such because it was a sheet that my Grandma had kept from my Father’s crib and later passed to me. I toted it around like a prize as a youngster. 30 years have gone by and the sheet is thin and tattered but it’s still my most favorite piece of fabric. 😉

  31. Marti Taylor says:

I have a vintage scarf that my Great Grandmother gave to my Grandma on her wedding day and it was passed down to my Mother and then to me. So much history and so many memories, I can’t wait to pass it down to my daughter.

  32. BETTY THOMPSON says:

Chenille bedspreads! Oh I haven’t thought of my mother’s chenille spreads for years. She’s been gone since 1976 and how I wish she was here to listen to me and give me advice. Unlike many in my age group (72) I don’t have parents to are for in their advanced years, and when I hear them complain I want to say “be grateful you have them.” Sorry, I digress. Chenille … wow, what memories.

  33. Sue says:

Love this post of the grandkids trip to New York! So charming! My favorite fabric is actually many little pieces, scraps from the days of making kids clothes and my own clothes, to make a “brickwall” quilt. I love to surround myself in that quilt on days that I need a “homey” hug!

  34. Lee says:

My favorite piece of fabric is a quilt my mom made me!

  35. J Whitmer says:

My favorite piece of fabric is a piece of my Mothers satin wedding dress we made into decorative pillows after she passed away so all of her children, and grandchildren, would have something to remember her by

  36. Vida Howard says:

I love to get out my 40s and 50s floral tablecloths and enjoy the bright fun colors.

  37. Nichole Hayes says:

Hmmm… favorite fabric of mine would be a very loved quilt my Grandma gave me for my twin bed as a girl…. it looks like it has been at the mercy of a band of fun loving cats for decades… it is so threadbare now you can see throu th spots….35 years old now I’d guess.

  38. Carol @ SowingStitches says:

My favorite piece of fabric at my house is one of my Dad’s old shirts I use as a painters smock, all tattered and torn, spotted and stained. It keeps his memory alive while I am working in my painting studio.

  39. Kay (Old Cowgirl) Montoya says:

Carol I know what you mean. My Husband past away a year and half ago. I have kept several of his shirts my favorite is an old flannel shirt. Some day I will make a quilt but not right now. I just can’t. A little piece is a memory. You go girl. Bless you

  40. Lori Morton says:

I have a few old old quilt tops handstitched by a friend’s Gramma…love them dearly. BUT my favorite piece of fabric is relatively new…my NC made a big Throw blanket & brought it to me (in Ohio)…while I was doing 7 weeks of daily Radiation Treatments last Fall. She said she wanted me to have Special Daughter Hugs with me while stayin at the Hotel. (yep…still makes my eyes leak…) This is such a Treasure to this Momma’s Heart

  41. Brenda says:

My favorite fabric is the dress I wore to my very first day of school. I attended a one room school house just down the road from us and my mother put me in a little blue and red plaid dress. It has tiny ruffles down the front of the bodice with a row of red buttons in the center of the ruffles and a Peter Pan collar. There are ties at the waist to tie a pretty bow at the back. I still have this dress and it brings back such fond memories of that little one room school house.

  42. Emily C says:

My favorite piece of fabric is a small pillow I embroidered when I was little. Too small to use the sewing machine, my mother helped me finish the back and add the ruffle. My favorite memory of her.

  43. Corine Runnion says:

my favorite fabric is a quilt that I won at the American Bashkir Curly Horse Convention years ago, people bought a square with their name, horses name or ranch. it has very special memories.

  44. My favorite piece of bedding…hmmm, my down comforter and some super cool and soft cotton sheet set. I have about 10 pillows ranging from king, queen, standard, shams, to the quirky and colorful statement pieces in my throws. *Matter of fact, I’m going there now!

  45. Jess says:

My favorite would either be the quilt that a friend made, or our so soft sateen sheets.

  46. Jeanne says:

I am not sure it constitutes fabric but it is close. I crocheted a bedspread several years ago and it is one of my favorites in my home.

  47. Molly Worden says:

My favorite fabric in my house away from my quilting stash is my satin wedding dress! I have a piece that was hemmed off of the bottom that I keep in my sewing area of the kids playroom/tractor room so that I can see and touch it often so that my whole wedding dress doesn’t get wear from my handprints on it

  48. Karrie Smith says:

My nordika fabric collection is my fave! Thanks for the chance to win!!!

  49. Melissa Pallex says:

My favorite piece of fabric is a quilt pieced by my sister. The coolest thing about this is that although this particular sister never sewed, quilted or anything terribly crafty while we were growing up (and I did do all of those things!), in the post-college years that she lived out of state and we were not terribly close, she learned to sew and to quilt and later blessed me with this beautiful quilt! I’ll always cherish it!

  50. Nancy Hadley says:

I have a hand made quilt my Grandmother made.. I will cherish it always.
