    Do Sugar Maples grow out in Idaho? They are some of the most beautiful colors in Fall. Here in Florida, we can only grow Southern Red Maples, which are a cousin of the Sugar but more heat tolerant. When they turn in the Fall, they are a deep red/orange. This considerably smaller leaf species favors growing where it is wet and can be found along rivers, and in swampy areas (we have plenty of that sort of space!) . We planted one in our front yard and it is now finally taking off. Although still fully green, I have hopes for a brilliant display in late December or January when we usually get our best opportunity for color.

      They do or I should, they can. I planted a few several years ago but they’ve hardly grown. Have patience, they say to me.
