Are you celebrating THIS day?

December 15 is National Cat Herders’ Day. To be honest, this is the first I’ve herd of this holiday. But, I’ll be celebrating.

The holiday is not to be taken literally, but rather, it is dedicated to doing the unmanageable. How impossible would it be to literally herd a bunch of cats? I can just picture it now, and the rodeo would be far more ridiculous than any of the adventures we’ve had moving cows from pasture to pasture out here at the farm. (Although we have had some pretty entertaining moments.) Guess we should be thankful we’re not running a cat dairy … for a variety of reasons.

Holiday Decor for the Little Janes

We’ve been getting crafty. The girls had a few friends over and we worked on some holiday decor. Using several wood-framed 8 x 10 pieces of canvas, we got started…

We painted. Kids can paint for hours …

Six Already?

We don’t know how it happened, but our littlest Jane turns 6 today!!

Happy birthday to our little Stella Jane!

We love you to bits and pieces.

25-Hour Day

By 9:30 a.m. this past Sunday morning, we had already boxed up our Halloween decorations, trimmed the house in Thanksgiving décor, and begun tackling the mess that is our craft/guest room. With each season, my poor hubby diligently piled boxes and boxes of ornamentation for me to ooh and aah over and place in the perfect corner. And … well … my craft room had bits and pieces from the last five holidays/events strewn about.

Impressed with ourselves, hubby and I sat down with both girls to have a little morning snack. Why were we so famished at 9:30 a.m. anyway? We’d eaten a good breakfast, hadn’t we??

Maybe it was because …

The Teachers of the World

Our little Stella started school this fall. It has been life changing. I cannot believe how much she’s learned in just one short month. And, most important, how much she loves it. She picks out her little outfits each morning, requests different types of braids most days, and then off she goes. When she gets home, she is so eager to do her homework that we work on it right away. We’ve set up a chalkboard in the living room so she can pretend she is the teacher. She has an entire class of well-behaved stuffed animals and dolls.

National Aviation Day

Happy National Aviation Day!! While we aren’t celebrating the holiday in the air this year, we have spent a fair amount of time up there recently. And traveling is no longer a low-stress event—delays, canceled flights, lost luggage …

I have an entirely new appreciation for my parents getting me out of bed in the wee hours of the morning to board a plane and fly across the country.  Now that I know what it entails, I have a few pointers I’ve picked up along the way …

keepin’ stride

For those of you who have children, grandchildren, and neighborhood kiddos, I’d like to pass along some parenting advice. Often, it’s the small, in-passing tidbits that are the biggest help. Here’s one I can’t wait to share …

It’s a Strider … a no-pedal balance bike.

Toronto Trip

Good morning Canada!

From my hotel window, I looked down on the Toronto City Hall with its extensive vegetable garden on the roof. How cool is that?

This is the second time we’ve stayed in the Marriott just off Trinity Square—a church that has been surrounded …
