Big five!

For my b-day party last weekend, my parents got up early (while my sis and I were still sleeping) to decorate the house and cut out crown pieces (princess and king), and make cupcakes that my friends and I would later decorate.

Going, going, GONE!

The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute http://www.pcei.org/ that I founded 25 years ago, had a weekend fundraiser, “25 chairs for 25 years.” Members of the community signed up to decorate an Adirondack chair, provided by PCEI, parade it around town and at our local farmers’ market, and then attend a live auction. The chairs were art at its best! Take a gander and then get out your tools. You’ll want to do this in your own home town or at least, your backyard to your own chairs.

This photo typifies PCEI … a smart car and lots of bikes parked on our 13 acre campus smack-dab in the middle of town surrounded by houses on all four sides.

You Know You’re a Farmgirl When…

You know you’re a farmgirl when your Nanny is getting ready to leave for a trip so she asks you to get a wet rag so she can clean her boots and they’re covered in … you know what, BUT there’s a frilly pair of socks laying next to them.

A Book for All Seasons

First Day of School

It’s that time of year and our Stella couldn’t have been more excited for her very first first day of school! She just couldn’t wait to get out the door. I, on the other hand, was a bit of wreck. Our baby’s first day of school … she is getting all grown up … what if she skins her knee? Will Mrs. Nichols understand her when she asks to use the bathroom? Will she make friends? And those are just the little worries. What I’m learning from other seasoned parents is that I will have a list of new worries every year on the first day of school.

Today’s Recipe: Block Party!

New to our neighborhood, we were invited to help our neighbors close down the street, lug grills and lawn chairs up the culdesac, and enjoy a good old-fashioned get-together.

First Day of School

Here’s my grandgirl heading into the University of Idaho music department for her first day of music classes. Note her travel companion — a well-loved, hand-rubbed blankie.

Horse Picnic

The first thing we do is go to our greenhouse to harvest horse-size carrots for our horses to eat as part of the picnic feast.

Then we saddle up Paco and LB (Lightning Bolt) and head for the old homestead up on Paradise Ridge.
