\t\t\t\tIf anyone ever asks you, \u201cWhen is Cinco de Mayo?\u201d don\u2019t fall for it\u2014just remember when you learned to count to ten in Spanish: uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco \u2026<\/p>\n

Cinco de Mayo is of course Spanish for the 5th<\/sup> of May.<\/p>\n

Here are a couple of things we should know about this holiday:<\/p>\n

At our local bar it may be just a day to …<\/p>\n

… celebrate with margaritas, but there\u2019s actually more to it than tequila.<\/p>\n

Some folks call it Mexican Independence Day, but that\u2019s actually September 16th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

So, what the heck is it?<\/p>\n

May 5th<\/sup> was the date the Mexican army defeated the mighty French forces at the Battle of Puebla way back in 1862. In the United States, we set aside this date to recognize Mexican heritage and spirit, and also to celebrate the idea of freedom.<\/p>\n
