\t\t\t\tPythagoras,\u00a0the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, knew it.\u00a0“Friends share all things.”<\/p>\n

Around 2,500 years later, John Lennon, the modern-day philosopher and musician, knew it too.<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine all the people, sharing all the world.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sharing is good. We know that.<\/p>\n

Food? Sharing food? We all do that.<\/p>\n

Here are some hard numbers:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In America, over 49 million people live in hunger or with the threat of not having enough to eat.<\/p>\n

17 million of those people are children.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s another number:<\/p>\n

Over 84 million American households have a yard or garden.<\/p>\n

Now, I\u2019m no Pythagoras, but it looks to me like that math has potential.<\/p>\n

So, what\u2019s growin\u2019 in your garden? Got room for one more row?<\/p>\n

In 1995, the Garden Writers Association created Plant a Row for the Hungry\u2014a program to inspire gardeners across the country to plant a little extra and donate it to their local soup kitchen or food pantry.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s as easy as it sounds. Plant it, grow it, share it.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s one more thing you can do, too\u2014spread the word.<\/p>\n
