{"id":19703,"date":"2012-08-06T00:08:58","date_gmt":"2012-08-06T07:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/?p=19703"},"modified":"2012-08-06T00:08:58","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T07:08:58","slug":"office-attire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/19703","title":{"rendered":"Idiomatic Expressions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">By now you&#8217;ve probably figured out our brand of office politics\u2014we&#8217;re<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">manure-kickin&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">mudslingin&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">pointed<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">dirty<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">rough-and-tumble &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">boot lovers, full of<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>idiomatic expressions<\/strong> that are<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>in your face. <\/em>However, one<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>mustn&#8217;t let sleeping dogs lie<\/em> (or <em>tired puppies cry<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">or<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">persistently <em>beat a dead horse<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Idiomatic expressions are common phrases or sayings whose meanings cannot be understood by the individual words or elements such as<em> cold war<\/em> and the obvious <em>funny farm<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And never, ever <em>look a gift horse in the mout<\/em>h.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">My pointed, mud-slingin,&#8217; manure-kickin&#8217;\u00a0boots are made from &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-19705\" title=\"MJ_GatorBoots\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/MJ_GatorBoots.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Reptiles? Yikes. I bought these in a 2nd hand store some 30 years ago. Fortunately, most\u00a0&#8220;reptile&#8221;\u00a0boots sold these days aren&#8217;t the real deal. Amazingly, when my daughter and I were in NYC several years ago, I found a\u00a0cream-colored faux reptile skirt in Filene&#8217;s Basement (cheap designer bargains) that matches these handsome devils perfectly.
