The museum\u2019s rich collection focuses on Singapore\u2019s multi-ethnic heritage, highlighting groups originating from China and throughout Asia. You can find exceptional curries, spicy chili crab, fresh seafood, and traditional rice dishes (as well as everything from gourmet French cuisine to Hooters!).\u00a0The river is flanked by endless eating options, but you\u2019ll pay a premium for the proximity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-20171\" title=\"geography_singapore-4863\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/geography_singapore-4863.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"544\" \/>For an authentic (and less expensive) dining experience, I went to the bustling Chinatown. The menu might look a bit intimidating, but it pays to be adventurous.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"geography_singapore-4864\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/geography_singapore-4864.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I prefer to wash my spicy food down with a cold beer, but Singapore is famous for its fruit punch that packs a punch.\u00a0As the story goes, the Singapore Sling was created sometime around the turn of the century by a bartender at the tony Raffles Hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The authentic recipe for the Singapore Sling is supposedly top secret, but you can find recipes claiming to be real McCoy all over the Internet. Here\u2019s my attempt at recreating the classic cocktail.<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE SLING<br \/>\nPREP TIME: 10 MINUTES<br \/>\nMAKES: 2 DRINKS<\/p>\n<p>2\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0ozs gin<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0oz brandy<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0ozs orange liqueur<br \/>\njuice of 1 lime<br \/>\n10\u00a0\u00a0 ozs pineapple juice<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0dash (or two!) Angostura bitters<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0ozs sparkling apple cider<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0oz grenadine (make your own!*)<br \/>\nIce<br \/>\nPineapple for garnish (optional)<br \/>\nOrange rind for garnish (optional)<\/p>\n<p>1. Fill a shaker (or quart Mason jar) \u00bc of the way with ice. Pour in gin, brandy, orange liqueur, lime, pineapple juice, and bitters. Cover with lid and shake for about 30 seconds.<br \/>\n2. Pour into glasses with ice. Top with cider and grenadine. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and an orange twist.<\/p>\n<p>*HOMEMADE GRENADINE<br \/>\nCombine \u00bd cup pomegranate juice and 1\/3 sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Simmer for 7 minutes. Remove from heat and chill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gather ingredients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-20311\" title=\"geography-singapore-1963\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/geography-singapore-1963.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"235\" \/><br \/>\nFill a shaker (or quart mason jar) \u00bc of the way with ice.
