Here&#8217;s a newer version (well, new to me). I thought (or rather, I\u00a0knew) you&#8217;d enjoy reading it along with a collection of our apron photos.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22304\" title=\"Apron2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Remember making an apron in Home Ec? Remember Home Ec?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22336\" title=\"Apron21\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The principal use of Grandma&#8217;s apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few and because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons required less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22349\" title=\"Apron25\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron25.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"328\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It was wonderful for drying children&#8217;s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22331\" title=\"Apron16\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"578\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22307\" title=\"Apron5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"542\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22332\" title=\"Apron19\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"568\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22341\" title=\"Apron12\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron121.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"248\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22338\" title=\"Apron24\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"541\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22308\" title=\"Apron6\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"299\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the autumn, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22339\" title=\"Apron18\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron181.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22340\" title=\"Apron23\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"510\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22417\" title=\"Apron26\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"541\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Grandma set her hot baked apple pies on the windowsill to cool. Her granddaughters sit theirs on the windowsill to thaw.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22354\" title=\"Apron8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron81.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that &#8216;old-time apron&#8217; that served so many purposes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22355\" title=\"Apron17\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"498\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The CDC would go crazy these days trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22356\" title=\"Apron22\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Apron222.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"575\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I don&#8217;t think I ever caught anything from an apron but love<span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-22745\" title=\"antique-card-aprons\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/antique-card-aprons.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"547\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of years ago, a poem\u00a0about aprons caught fire on the Internet.
