Salley, an accomplished fiber artist and author living in Falmouth, Massachusetts, says she has always been fascinated with “little things” and needlework.<\/p>\n

“Manipulating materials in my hands with a needle and thread was so much more satisfying than …<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

rendering with a pencil or brush,” Salley explains on her blog, Wee Folk Studio<\/a>. “I found that I could communicate my ideas more clearly and that my hands would direct me in a compelling way.\u00a0Finding no descriptive term for what I was making,\u00a0I named my technique Fabric Relief<\/em>.”<\/em><\/p>\n

For the past 20 years, Salley has been working in the field of illustration, creating 3-dimensional artwork that is photographed and printed in children\u2019s books. The original fabric relief pictures from her latest book, Pocketful of Posies<\/a><\/em>, are touring the country through 2013.<\/p>\n
