Remember the “The Love Shack” song by the beehives ‘n bling band, the B-52s?<\/p>\n

I know\u2014how could you forget?<\/p>\n

(And now you’ll have it stuck in your head the rest of the day.)<\/p>\n

The love shack is a little ol’ place where<\/p>\n

we can get together \u2026<\/p>\n

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.<\/p>\n

Now that I have you humming, come along with me to the decidedly deco desert getaway dreamed up by the B-52s’ red-headed bombshell, Kate Pierson.<\/p>\n

Kate has created her own oasis in Landers, California, that beckons visitors to bask in the exuberant glow of retro.<\/p>\n

It’s called Kate’s Lazy Desert, a vintage-inspired resort destination housed entirely in re-fabbed Airstream trailers.<\/p>\n

It all began a few years ago when Kate was tooling down a New York state back road in her orange VW bug \u2026<\/p>\n

“That’s when I first saw a gleaming silver Airstream with a ‘for sale’ sign on it, and I screeched to a halt \u2026 I called the number posted on the window, met the owner, and sealed the deal.”<\/p>\n

That was Airstream number one, which became known as “Tinkerbell,” the first official Lazy Kate love shack.<\/p>\n

“The other Airstreams seemed to steer their way toward us by some magical force,” Kate says.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

However, few have been in pristine condition upon arrival. So, Kate and her partner-in-kitsch, Monica Coleman, have called upon designer friends to restore, renovate, renew, and redo each addition to the Desert.<\/p>\n

The Airstreams at Kate’s Lazy Desert are now decked-out in individualized glam\u2014each has her own distinctly vintage va-va-va-voom.<\/p>\n

There is “Hairstream,” otherwise known as “Kate’s Fantasy Dressing Room,” which is bejeweled in B-52s memorabilia:<\/p>\n

Then, there is “Planet Air,” a sublimely spacey ‘stream with LED panels and space-age controls:<\/p>\n

Take a look at “Lava.” She may be the tiniest trailer of the lot, but she promises to make you feel as dreamy as a genie in a lava lamp:<\/p>\n

This is “Tiki,” where you’re just one aloha away from a tropical adventure in neon bright colors.<\/p>\n

Lest we forget, “North to Alaska,” a kitschy novelty perfect for the more adventurous vacationer!<\/p>\n

Each airstream accommodates two adults (one double bed) and also boasts a hammock, mini BBQ grill, coffee maker, and basic cooking utensils for about $200 per night.<\/p>\n
