{"id":36254,"date":"2013-04-27T00:07:14","date_gmt":"2013-04-27T07:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/?p=36254"},"modified":"2013-04-27T00:07:14","modified_gmt":"2013-04-27T07:07:14","slug":"flat-stanleys-field-trip-to-the-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/36254","title":{"rendered":"Flat Stanley&#8217;s Field Trip to the Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tMany of you may have met this guy &#8230;\u00a0or his sister, Flat Suzy &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36255\" alt=\"fs 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-2.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flat Stanley is a tool for us kids (usually kindergarten through second grade) to connect with others across the country. He is usually sent on a trip (via mail) to another part of the country by a student to another student. When he arrives, he has pictures taken of all the activities he enjoys in a new place. Sometimes, he gets new attire or accessories on his trip, too.<\/p>\n<p>Flat Stanley, who will be celebrating his 50th year in 2014, was originally a children&#8217;s book published in 1964 by Jeff Brown. His story goes like this:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;When Stanley Lambchop wakes up one morning, his brother, Arthur, is yelling. A bulletin board fell on Stanley during the night, and now he is only half an inch thick! <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Amazing things begin happening to him. Stanley gets rolled up, mailed, and flown like a kite. He even gets to help catch two dangerous art thieves. He may be flat, but he&#8217;s a hero!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I received him all the way from Kansas from my friend, Alexa (we share the same birthday). Alexa is a farmgirl for sure, so we knew he&#8217;d enjoy a visit to the farm. Here&#8217;s a snippet of Flat Stanley&#8217;s day with us &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He found two eggs in the coop,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36256\" alt=\"fs 8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-8.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Grabbed a few green onions for lunch from the greenhouse,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36257\" alt=\"fs 3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-3.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Noticed my handprint from three years ago,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36258\" alt=\"fs 4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-4.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cooked up his lunch in our outdoor kitchen,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36259\" alt=\"fs 5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-5.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Took a nap in the sun with Beau Vine,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36260\" alt=\"fs 7\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-7.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And finished off his day with a nice hot bath in one of our outdoor tubs!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-36261\" alt=\"fs 6\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/fs-6.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flat Stanley, thanks for visiting!
