{"id":38008,"date":"2013-05-26T00:09:37","date_gmt":"2013-05-26T07:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/?p=38008"},"modified":"2013-05-26T00:09:37","modified_gmt":"2013-05-26T07:09:37","slug":"glamping-it-up-in-kansas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/38008","title":{"rendered":"Glamping It Up in Kansas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tArriving in Lindsborg, Kansas (Little Sweden, USA), after driving through my previous hometown of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/37554\">Emporia<\/a>, we were greeted by Dala horses on every corner.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38010 aligncenter\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-1815\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1815.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"423\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A popular symbol of Sweden, this herd of Dala horses were cast in large fiberglass forms and are hand-painted by local artists. Each is publicly displayed and has a distinctive pun-filled name.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38170 aligncenter\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-1818\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1818.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Dala below isn&#8217;t part of the herd, but shows the traditional design of the Dala horse. Traditionally carved out of wood, the red Dala horse, popularized in Sweden in the early 19th century, was a toy for children.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38211 aligncenter\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-21821\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-21821.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"391\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After a cheerful nicker and a long neigh, we arrived at the Swedish Country Inn B&amp;B. A quaint little bed and breakfast with a sauna, imported furniture in each room, and a fantastic breakfast spread! The next morning, we were treated to\u00a0pickled herring, Swedish meatballs, assorted meats, cheese, pancakes, and lingonberries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1831.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38203 aligncenter\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-1831\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1831.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1834.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image wp-image-38204\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-1834\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1834.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"461\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And there was Kn\u00e4ckebr\u00f6d and\u00a0pepparkakor. Ace knew what those were right away, as they were staples of her upbringing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38495 aligncenter\" alt=\"kansas-1824\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/kansas-1824.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"383\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mom and I enjoyed the heritage, but Ace, our foodie photographer, was in seventh heaven! Here she is in traditional garb handed down from her family.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38208 aligncenter\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-22389\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-22389.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"447\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But wait! I&#8217;m getting ahead of myself. That first night we settled in, unpacked our bags, and began preparing ourselves for a fabulous night of outside dining,\u00a0at a Glampin&#8217;\u00a0Farmgirls on the Loose event organized by chapter leader April Choate of Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38220 aligncenter\" alt=\"get_out-kansas-1902\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/get_out-kansas-1902.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"387\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had a special surprise waiting for me! My good friend, Mary, who I met when I lived in Kansas, came to spend the glamping weekend adventure with me. It was such a treat catching up with her!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-38405 aligncenter\" alt=\"kansas-2100\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/kansas-2100.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We arrived at the glamp-site to a delicious spread of potluck farmgirl fare. So, hold onto your hats ladies.<\/p>\n<p>More fun is on the way when\u00a0I take you\u00a0through a tour of the glamp-mobiles that gathered together. Missouri, Texas, Minnesota, S.
