{"id":48632,"date":"2014-04-15T00:09:28","date_gmt":"2014-04-15T07:09:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/?p=48632"},"modified":"2014-04-15T00:09:28","modified_gmt":"2014-04-15T07:09:28","slug":"dialectible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/48632","title":{"rendered":"Dialectible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tIf you were tickled by my doozy of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/46688\">dialect post<\/a> a while back<\/p>\n<p>or delighted with this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/10951\">humdinger of a dictionary<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>then you&#8217;ll <i>definitely<\/i> want to try this &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The <i>New York Times<\/i> published a quirky quiz last year based on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www4.uwm.edu\/FLL\/linguistics\/dialect\/maps.html\">Harvard Dialect Survey<\/a>, and it turned out to be the most popular piece posted in 2013 (wouldn&#8217;t you love to be the <a href=\"http:\/\/knightlab.northwestern.edu\/2014\/01\/20\/behind-the-dialect-map-interactive-how-an-intern-created-the-new-york-times-most-popular-piece-of-content-in-2013\/\">intern who created it<\/a>?).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s called:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2013\/12\/20\/sunday-review\/dialect-quiz-map.html?_r=0\">How Y&#8217;all, Youse and You Guys Talk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t taken it already, just click the link above, answer the questions, and watch for the maps that link your lingo to certain regions of the country. According to the <i>Times<\/i>, &#8220;The colors on the large heat map correspond to the probability that a randomly selected person in that location would respond to a randomly selected survey question the same way that you did.
