In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. Twenty years later, in 2001,\u00a0the General Assembly\u00a0declared that the day would be an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire. According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/internationaldayofpeace.org\">official website<\/a>, &#8220;Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed for someone you don\u2019t know. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. You&#8217;ll be joining with millions of people around the world to promote peace with activities, events, concerts, and festivals. This year&#8217;s theme is \u201cRights of Peoples to Peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ideas on how\u00a0YOU can participate\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/internationaldayofpeace.org\">InternationalDayOfPeace.org<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Share a selfie<\/strong> on social media using the #PeaceDay hashtag.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Help us Make #PeaceDay Trend<\/strong> on September 21 by tweeting, posting and sharing your thoughts, pictures and message of peace throughout the day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sign the <a href=\"http:\/\/internationaldayofpeace.org\/wp-content\/themes\/idp\/pdf\/PEACE_Pledge.pdf\">\u201cI am a Pathway to Peace\u201d Pledge<\/a><\/strong> to show your commitment to peace.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Join people across the world in a Minute of Silence, Moment of Peace<\/strong> at noon in every time zone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consider gathering for a Global Feast for Peace<\/strong>, including foods from different cultures, or interfaith dialogue, or just gather to break bread.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have a discussion or create an art activity<\/strong> around what this year\u2019s theme, \u201cRight of Peoples to Peace\u201d means to your group.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GlobalMarchForPeaceUnity\"><strong>Organize a Global March for Peace and Unity<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Involve your Faith\/Spiritual Community<\/strong> in Peace Day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tell your favorite Radio Stations<\/strong> about Peace Day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Participate in a Global Meditation<\/strong> on September 21 for the International Day of Peace at 19:00 UTC\/ GMT worldwide.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Give Peace Breathing a try<\/strong>, and share it with others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Open or close your gatherings with the simple universal statement of peace<\/strong>, \u201cMay Peace Prevail on Earth.\u201d Or display the message of peace, \u201cMay Peace Prevail on Earth\u201d, with your own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peacepoleproject.org\/\">Peace Pole<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bring music and inspiration into the lives of children around the world<\/strong>.
