We hug &#8217;em. We may even adorn them in flowers to show our girls how much we appreciate their marvelous milk \u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56015 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cow-DSC_0065DSC_0065.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"241\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 and (generally) gentle dispositions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_56016\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56016\" class=\"wp-image-56016\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/800px-Wearing_her_fine_flowery_hat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-56016\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Lene, also called Manisha via Wikimedia Commons<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But, the same can&#8217;t always be said for larger dairy operations, where cows are often akin to assembly-line employees, and working conditions can be, let&#8217;s just say, <em>less<\/em> than cozy.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the last thing anyone would expect to see in a large commercial dairy barn is cows lounging on waterbeds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Waterbeds?!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;MJ is trying her hand at comedy again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nope\u2014not this time.<\/p>\n<p>I dare say I&#8217;d never dreamed of such a thing. As far as I knew, the waterbed craze fizzled out somewhere in the &#8217;80s, and I wasn&#8217;t sorry to see it go (that fad fell under the category of &#8220;just because you <em>can<\/em> do something doesn&#8217;t mean you <em>should<\/em>&#8220;). Ever try to get out of a waterbed when you&#8217;re eight months pregnant?<\/p>\n<p>Yet, much to my astonishment, waterbeds are making a comeback,<\/p>\n<p>finding a new niche under the hocks (and hooves) of dairy cattle,<\/p>\n<p>replacing sawdust bedding and stall mats with the ultimate in indoor cow comfort.<\/p>\n<p>Still don&#8217;t believe me?
