Take it away, MBA Jane!!! ~MaryJane\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\">Wondering who I am? I\u2019m Merit Badge Awardee Jane (MBA Jane for short). In my<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/10477\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">former life<\/span><\/span><\/a> \u2026<b>\u00a0<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For this week\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmgirlsisterhood.org\/badges-ycsc-weaving_in_out.asp\"><u>Stitching and Crafting\/Weaving In and Out Intermediate Level Young Cultivator Merit Badge<\/u><\/a>, Piper, Andy, and I stepped up the ante. Now that we were pretty proficient at how to braid and make our own friendship bracelets,<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_61729\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61729\" class=\"wp-image-61729\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/6602044993_1edfb34565_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-61729\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo by Nina Helmer via Flickr.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>we had to branch out and &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>make another using a different material this time and give one away.<\/p>\n<p>Seemed simple enough. Aww, naivet\u00e9, thy name is Jane \u2026<\/p>\n<p>We already had enough friendship bracelets to adorn most of the neighborhood (and in Andy\u2019s case, the local football team), but we were fresh outta yarn. We pondered and pondered: what else could be braided?<\/p>\n<p>Well, that was a loaded question for Lil&#8217; Miss Pipes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat <em>can\u2019t <\/em>be braided?\u201d she rephrased, in delight.<\/p>\n<p>Umm, turns out that became a list.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Things That Cannot Be Braided:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Rocks<br \/>\n\u2022 Granola bars<br \/>\n\u2022 Chicken feathers<br \/>\n\u2022 Beef jerky<br \/>\n\u2022 Sticks of gum<br \/>\n\u2022 All the electrical cords behind the entertainment cabinet (but only cuz Dad says no)<br \/>\n\u2022 Toothbrushes<br \/>\n\u2022 Dog\u2019s ears (but only because they won\u2019t sit still long enough)<br \/>\n\u2022 Kitten\u2019s tails (see above)<br \/>\n\u2022 Forks<br \/>\n\u2022 Spoons<br \/>\n\u2022 Knives<\/p>\n<p>And how do we know these items aren\u2019t braidable, you might ask? Because we <em>didn&#8217;t<\/em> attempt them, naturally \u2026 sigh.<\/p>\n<p>The next list seemed more fun (not to mention, more applicable).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Things That CAN Be Braided:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Yarn<br \/>\n\u2022 Ribbons<br \/>\n\u2022 Shoelaces (not while people are wearing them, though. Not nice, Andy)<br \/>\n\u2022 Some flower stalks or long grasses<br \/>\n\u2022 Strips of cloth or lace<br \/>\n\u2022 Rickrack<br \/>\n\u2022 Your mom\u2019s purse straps<br \/>\n\u2022 Your dad\u2019s belts<br \/>\n\u2022 Curly ribbon on packages\/gifts<br \/>\n\u2022 Headbands and hair ties<br \/>\n\u2022 Curtain tie-backs<br \/>\n\u2022 Fringe<br \/>\n\u2022 Shirt sleeves (Don\u2019t ask. I think they were making homemade strait jackets or something.)<br \/>\n\u2022 Fruit leather (sticky, but worth the flavor combination)<br \/>\n\u2022 Licorice sticks<br \/>\n\u2022 Dental floss<br \/>\n\u2022 Bungee cords<br \/>\n\u2022 Bread dough<br \/>\n\u2022 Embroidery floss<br \/>\n\u2022 Men\u2019s dress socks or girl\u2019s knee-highs<\/p>\n<p>I think the list would have gone on all day and night, but we needed to get crackin\u2019 on actually accomplishing a few completed bracelets and then gifting them. This likely would have led to another list, but I snagged the pencil from Piper. Not. Even. It is one of a kind, yes, but you too can have a priceless symbol of your neighbor kids&#8217; affection.
