  1. something\u00a0unusually\u00a0large,\u00a0heavy,\u00a0etc.<\/li>\n
  2. a\u00a0decisive\u00a0reply,\u00a0argument,\u00a0etc.<\/li>\n
  3. a\u00a0heavy,\u00a0finishing\u00a0blow:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Example: His\u00a0right\u00a0jab\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0real\u00a0sockdolager.<\/em><\/p>\n

    In other words, it\u2019s a real doozy of a closing argument, getting the last word, or in today\u2019s slang, a mic drop.<\/p>\n

    Lest we find ourselves giggling too much at our funny-sounding new word, let me bring you some sorrowful solemnity: sockdologising\u00a0<\/em>likely\u00a0was\u00a0nearly\u00a0the\u00a0last\u00a0word\u00a0President\u00a0Abraham\u00a0Lincoln ever heard.\u00a0During\u00a0the\u00a0performance\u00a0of\u00a0Tom\u00a0Taylor’s\u00a0“Our\u00a0American\u00a0Cousin,” assassin\u00a0John\u00a0Wilkes Booth\u00a0(who\u00a0knew\u00a0the\u00a0play\u00a0well)\u00a0waited\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0laughline,<\/p>\n

    “Well,\u00a0I\u00a0guess\u00a0I\u00a0know\u00a0enough\u00a0to\u00a0turn you\u00a0inside\u00a0out,\u00a0you\u00a0sockdologising old\u00a0mantrap!”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

    Amid\u00a0the\u00a0noise\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0audience\u00a0responded in laughter and applause,\u00a0Booth\u00a0fired\u00a0the fatal\u00a0shot.<\/p>\n

    Sniffle. Well, now it\u2019s my heart that feels unusually heavy \u2026 almost sockdolager-esque you could say.<\/p>\n
