{"id":8069,"date":"2011-12-30T03:00:46","date_gmt":"2011-12-30T11:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/?p=8069"},"modified":"2011-12-30T03:00:46","modified_gmt":"2011-12-30T11:00:46","slug":"feeling-spent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/8069","title":{"rendered":"Today&#8217;s Recipe: Your Man Actin&#8217; Spent?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tAnd we thought non-stop football, La-Z-Boy recliners, and spinach hors d&#8217;oeuvres revived Bubba&#8217;s spent energies.\u00a0In a recent poll (found in a 30s magazine), men overwhelmingly voted &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"growing_jane-raisin_pie-0506\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/growing_jane-raisin_pie-05061.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"319\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;\u00a0the RAISIN.<\/p>\n<p>Girls, if you want to see your modern-day man\u00a0come a raisin&#8217; up from his chair, go straight away to your kitchen, put on an apron like Grandmama did, and\u00a0&#8220;raisin up&#8221; a super bowl size of &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image wp-image-8200 aligncenter\" title=\"growing_jane-raisin_pie-0374\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/growing_jane-raisin_pie-03741.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"532\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>RAISIN PIE<\/strong><br \/>\nPREP TIME: 30 MINUTES PLUS 1 HOUR CHILLING TIME FOR PIE CRUST<br \/>\nCOOK TIME: 50 MINUTES<br \/>\nMAKES: 8 SERVINGS<\/p>\n<p>Pie Crust:<\/p>\n<p>2\u00bd cups flour<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0t sugar<br \/>\n\u00bd\u00a0\u00a0 t salt<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0cup cold butter<br \/>\n5\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0tablespoons cold water<\/p>\n<p>Pie Filling:<\/p>\n<p>1\u00bd\u00a0 cups water<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0cups raisins<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0cup sugar<br \/>\n\u00bc\u00a0\u00a0 cup cornstarch<br \/>\njuice of 2 lemons<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0T lemon zest<br \/>\njuice of 1 orange<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0T orange zest<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0cup walnuts, finely chopped<br \/>\nwhipped cream for serving<\/p>\n<p>1. To prepare pie crust, combine flour, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl.<br \/>\n2. Using a pastry blender, cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse meal.<br \/>\n3. While stirring mixture, slowly add water until mixture begins to form a ball.<br \/>\n4. Shape into two discs and chill for 1 hour.<br \/>\n5. Once the dough has chilled, preheat oven to 400\u00b0F.<br \/>\n6. To prepare the filling, bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add raisins and continue to boil for 5 minutes.<br \/>\n7. While mixture is boiling, mix together sugar and cornstarch. Pour this mixture into the raisin mixture and cook until thick.<br \/>\n8. Once the mixture has thickened, remove from heat.<br \/>\n9. Add the juice of two lemons, lemon zest, juice of one orange, orange zest, and finely chopped walnuts. Mix well.<br \/>\n10. Pour the raisin mixture into a 9-inch pie crust, and place the second pastry over the top of the pie.<br \/>\n11. Bake at 400\u00b0F for 50 minutes.<br \/>\n12. Allow pie to cool for 1 hour, and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gather ingredients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
