In the process of earning her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmgirlsisterhood.org\/merit-badges.asp\">Stargazing Chicks badge<\/a>, she became &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; secretary and treasurer of an Astronomers Club;\u00a0while earning her Quilting badge, she became the historian of a Quilter&#8217;s Guild;\u00a0for her Public Service badge (requirements listed below), she announced her candidacy for Town Clerk. How cool is that?! Here&#8217;s what the news clip she sent me says:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ll bring 25 years business\/clerical experience to the Town Clerk&#8217;s office, along with a desire to build strong community, and a positive, respectful attitude. My flexibility will allow me to meet needs on weekends, Sundays, or holidays if necessary. I&#8217;ll never waste taxpayer money by accepting salary without keeping regular, consistent hours of service. I&#8217;ll serve with kindness and respect, restoring healthy, trusting relationships with the community and local leaders. I&#8217;ll attend regular municipal clerk training sessions, keeping me current and able to serve the very best way possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image wp-image-9859\" title=\"gladsome_sisteres-carrie_9952\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raisingjane.org\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/gladsome_sisteres-carrie_9952.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">She also included four coasters she had made. Ever so cleverly put together, I asked for the pattern. Pay special attention to ballot initiatives and what they mean.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u2022 If you are a member of a Farmgirl Chapter, give a report sharing what you\u2019ve learned in a non-partisan way.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u2022 Vote in five elections for city, state, and federal matters.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Intermediate Level<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u2022 Run for office or volunteer to work on the campaign for a candidate that you support.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Expert Level<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u2022 Win the election (either you or the person you helped win office)!<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u2022\u00a0For motivation about challenges ahead, read &#8220;Free Lunch&#8221; by David Cay Johnston.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s always a delight to hear from Carrie Meerwarth, Farmgirl Sister of the Year 2009, who I believe is our highest badge earner to date.
