Mind you, “the wild” is open to interpretation …

“We don’t just sit around a campfire,” the Gals confess. “We also shop, go to festivals, have costume parties, visit points of interest, have potluck suppers, host fundraisers … well, you get the idea. We are in this for FUN!”

If you live in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana and are itching to get your glamp on with the Gals, they invite you to jump on board.

“We have a little over 400 members, and they’re all women—no kids or men allowed,” member Pam Sinclair told RV blogger Rex Vogel. “Most of us are married, and part of the fun is getting away from the husband, the house, the kids, and the pets for a few days.”

“We have weekend get’aways every four to five weeks and they are in a different location each time.”

With no initiation fee and no annual dues, the Get’away Gals are a bona fide free-for-all.

“All you have to do is attend two campouts to see if you like it, and you’re in,” says Sinclair.

Upcoming months’ events are being planned for the following locations:

  • July: Big Bend or Pala Duro Canyon, Texas (Hostess Barb Lambert)
  • August: Louisiana (Hostess Karen LeGlue)
  • September: Conway, Arkansas (Hostess Debbie Johnson)
  • October: Canton, Texas (Hostess Barb Parmley)
  • October: Houston, Texas area (Hostess Judy Cauthorn)

Find out more about catching up with the Get’away Gals on their website, where you can also travel along in spirit through photos, songs, and a monthly newsletter.

    What a G-R-E-A-T idea!

  2. Winnie Nielsen says:

This glamping “movement” seems to be taking the nation by storm! So many creative women reconditioning these vintage trailers into the cutest adventure expedition vehicles. I love the whimsy, the stories, the photos of so many friends coming together to recharge their batteries, and all of the creative ways they embrace fun together! Makes me wish I did not just own a Prius!

  3. DeeDee says:

  4. Mauri says:

I’m sooo interested, but is this group still gathering to camp or have they disbanded? There was mention in local catalog of them so I’ve been searching (and searching…and searching…) — all I can find seems dated 2013 or 2014, latest.

  5. Cheryl L. says:

How do I join? The website domain name seems to be up for sale and I can’t find a new website for this! It sounds like so much fun!

  6. Cheryl L. says:

Looking to camp, play, and just have a good time!

  7. SallyR Tolbert says:

Are there any plans in creating a chapter in Ohio?
Do the campers have to be vintage?
I would love to see something like this in Ohio as I just bought a small teardrop camper and would like to meet some women for weekend camping. My husband is not at all interested and I think it would be fun to meet up with some women to camp for a weekend.
