The fourth Saturday in October is National Make a Difference Day. I love this and can’t wait to properly celebrate this holiday.
Did you know there is an actual Make a Difference website where you can organize a project, register it so others can sign up to help, download the logo, and possibly receive an award for your service? Not that we need awards for making a difference, but getting help with a big project is surely appealing! And if you don’t have time to do all that, you can join a project already in the works and make a difference this coming Saturday …
There’s no point in beating around the bush …
Or the Christmas tree, as the case may be.
Holiday shopping is looming on the horizon.

Wow! Front yard garden? This is called Farmscape. I jumped for joy. You will, too, when you see what Jesse DuBois and his team have in the works at KickStarter. (KickStarter is a website that acts as a funding platform for creative projects.) In 2010, DuBois began project building and maintaining intensive food gardens for Farmscape, the largest urban farming venture in California. This venture soon inspired Agrisaurus. Which, by the way, is an awesome name.

Absolutely fabulous – now this is what we should be doing instead of building silly chicken mansions. No, the chickens are not silly – I love my girls – the people who think of those things ARE.

Winnie Nielsen says: Lately, I have been buying Idaho peaches in this small local market because the ones from the south are long gone. The peaches have been so perfect in shape and juicy. Thanks Idaho for sharing your late summer bounty all the way here in Florida.
Potato harvest in progress. Still more to dig. I grow only a variety called Desiree. They aren’t prone to disease and they keep well into spring without sprouting. And, and, AND, they are TASTY.

Elizabeth says: Ode to the wonderful potato. Potato is one of my favorite vegetables/foods. When I was in college pretty much all I would eat was potatoes. Would buy a sack (or 2) of potatoes & boil them in a huge pot, uncut & with skins still in tact. Then, I would let them cool & store them in the refrigerator until I was ready to eat. So between school & work I would grab a potato, slice it up & make a meal of it with ketchup. When I had more time I would make: mashed potatoes; potato soup: bake stuffed potato; breakfast potatoes & potato pancakes. The meals were inexpensive, filling & pretty yummy too. And once I had an Oral Surgeon actually endorse/recommend/sanction nothing but mashed potatoes for…well, a long while:-) Not what I would consider a bad Rx!
Elizabeth says: Been meaning to say that I love this picture; blues are a cherished color in my garden. And blue flowers are hard to come by but oh so pretty. Butterflies are always welcome here as I try to encourage more visitors each year by adding so many more host plants for various caterpillars.
