Good Morning Christmas Day

My still-life view of the world (from my top-floor window) this wondrous day after going out to feed our cows and chickens. The cattle are lowing, fresh snow has fallen, the air is still, and the welcoming sun is the brightest star in the sky. All is right in my world. How about yours?

Now, onto that cherry pie I promised my family …

And ham and taters and squash and ….

  1. Laurie Dimno says:

Merry Christmas Mary Jane! Wishing you and your family continued blessings of much love, good health and endless happiness.

  2. Eileen Stone says:

Merry Christmas! Thank You for the beautiful photos! Love the red fence!

  3. Winnie Nielsen says:

Merry Christmas Mary Jane! Love those snowy photos of the farm too, especially the cow with the Santa hat. We enjoyed ham and taters down here in the south too! But we had fresh kale from my tiny fall garden instead of squash.

A Child Was Born …

Friday, the 14th of December 2012, will be remembered by our entire nation forever.

For me … it was joyous … one of those moments that pauses and becomes you … a moment that all else in the world cannot interrupt …

  1. Terry Steinmetz says:

Being at a birth is so rewarding. I know from personal experiences of being a doula & a midwife for almost 30 years. It is special to share the coming into the world of a precious little one. I hold my breath until I hear the first cry; and I cry for joy at that same first cry! I will always be thankful for all these special people in my life. (and most of them are grown & have children of their own!)

  2. Winnie Nielsen says:

Alas, in my nursing experience, I only participated in live births when an emergency C-section occurred. That being said, there is no greater happiness or RELIEF than to hear that first cry and see that baby all pink and reacting!!

  3. bobbie calgaro says:

29 years ago on Dec. 14th, my sweet daughter was born. She has been the joy of her dad’s and my life as she is our only child. Even though Friday was a day of infamy for the rest of the world, it will always hold wonderful memories for those of us who have birthed a child on that date. Congratulations, Ashley on your beautiful boy and may much love always fill your home.

  4. Eileen Widman says:

Thank you for sharing this lovely story. We all need to remember that, even in tragic times, miracles happen! Being a Doula is one of the greatest callings on earth! My daughter is one also in Wisconsin.

  5. Pamela Kirkland says:

    Awesome pic and everything.

I love this beautiful snowy landscape. This is not something I ever have a chance to experience down here in Florida. It feels so Christmassy!

Sheroes and Heroes

Did you catch the CNN Heroes awards ceremony last night? If not, get out your TV program and find out when it’s airing again. It’s not something you’ll want to miss. Who doesn’t want to be inspired off-the-charts? Have a good cry? Go to bed dreaming of a better world? In between adult heroism, they featured the work of children. Within 10 minutes of air time, I was crying. By the time it was over, I was sobbing. The work of being human—belonging, participating IN humanity is why we’re here. Go there. Be there. Here’s a hug. You’ll need one.

  1. Winnie Nielsen says:

I love that program that CNN puts together every year. Indeed , it is humbling to see such extraordinary people who make such a huge difference in this world.
