Round ’em Up!

Is that a wagon train in the distance?

(On our recent glamp romp to SD, we’d been driving for an hour or so and hadn’t seen any sign of man, beast, or habitat.)

Good golly miss molly … decidedly not. And not a soul in sight, or on site, for that matter. We saw this, um, ghost town in the middle of nowhere. Can’t recall which state we were in, but clearly the state this area was in, wasn’t too good!

That unsightly mess is just outside of Buffalo, WY. It has been like that for *years*. Not a pretty sight as you enter an otherwise beautiful small city nestled at the foot of the Big Horn mountains. There are city ordinances that when enforced prevent that kind of visual pollution, but few (like zero) regulations exist out in the country. Sad really.

Buffalo’s had its share of fires this year. The west is on fire. That said, I wanted to live in Buffalo. I wanted to live in Dillon (I picked out a house). I wanted to live in Montana. All of it is just like I remembered it as a child–The Yellowstone, Madison, and Clark Fork rivers. Amazing. Made me cry. I swear I saw the very place on the Madison my family camped and fished when I was a youngster. And where you live Shery? I want to join you. Beautiful beyond words. Wyoming!!!!!!!

These photos are sad!!!! A proverbial dumping ground for junk just because there are wonderful wide open spaces. When I see this sort of thing, I ask myself why would people be so disrespectful of our Mother Earth?

river of red

It’s insane what wildfires do, even scarier what wildfire storms can do. While driving through a canyon outside of Missoula, Montana, we passed by an area that looked like it was recently scorched (or so we thought). Well, a couple of questions to our camper neighbors later and we learned that the fire occurred in the year 2000. They informed us that a wildfire “storm” is a fire with so much fuel that the heat from the fire sterilizes the ground and the vegetation doesn’t bounce back for years.

Here’s a photo of the strange red haze the fires in Wyoming were casting. Eerie.

Night Lights

It’s one of those days when I’m anxious to see things from a different angle. Travel will do that to a person.

Headstand?

Hmmm … I think not.

Mountaintop?

Maybe.

Do you ever have one of those days?

Hmmmmmmm, a kaleidescope, now that is a fun thought…take transparencies of yourself or a loved one and create images. A fresh look at your self is always a good idea…taking stock, looking for places that need fine tuning or improvement…or even be nice to yourself and feel good about what you see.

  2. Terry Steinmetz says:

Perspectives are what help us imagine what another’s life is or can be. We long to be a part of the bigger picture, to share the simple things that happen; the hopes, dreams & fears of each other. But it is also what makes us want something better for everyone. I love to think that I’m making a difference for my family–my children & grandchildren–along this road of life. That’s why I did the “different” things (homebirths, homeschooling before it was fashionable) to help make change for them & others. And along the way, I hope I can see another perspective. Ahhh…keeping the dreams alive one day at a time, one moment too!

  3. Winnie Nielsen says:

I agree that travel is one of the best ways to get a new perspective . The world becomes so small in our everyday routines that we cannot see the forest for the trees. We make better decisions when we are rested and renewed. Travel is the one opportunity to accomplish this that most people can do . Even if the travel is to a state park nearby for a day of fun. The challenge we all have is NOT talking ourselves out of leaving because we have convinced ourselves we are too busy.!
