Hi, I’m Eeyore.

“When I came to MaryJane’s, I was a sad sight to see. Pretty much the longhorn version of a Sarah McLaughlin SPCA commercial, my mother died when I was …

My jaw dropped in awe of the ingenuity and utter beauty, but I also felt an immediate rush. Something like,

OF COURSE.

Why had no one imagined this before? …

Seed Catalog Romance

Are you spending your evenings curled up with a seed catalog? I am. Oh, the possibilities blooming inside my head! Tonight, anything is possible. What a delicious love affair I’m having.

  1. Debra Davis says:

Me too! I need more acreage and less full-time employment…

  2. drMolly says:

Hmmmmmmmm, you must be reading my mind. This is what I planned to do tonight after supper. I also go through my seeds left from last year, review what did well and dream about what I want to try this year.
I, too, have not near enough room, but I make the best of what I do have & am so, so thankful to be able to “play in the dirt”.

  3. Sarah says:

I’m a newbie gardener (first one last year). Interested in starting seeds this year. What’s your favorite seed catalog? Any suggestions for a first timer?

    • MaryJane says:

These companies offer gorgeous catalogs brimming with heirloom seeds: Seed Savers Exchange (www.seedsavers.org), Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds (www.rareseeds.com), Comstock Garden Seeds (comstockferre.com), and Territorial Seed Company (www.territorialseed.com).

  4. Oh, I go to sleep each night – can’t wait to start sprouting my seeds!!!!!

Surprise Joke

Ad from 1916. It’s a good thing our humor has become modernized. “Best joke out.” Thankfully gone.

  1. Marie (Reereebee) says:

    Yikes!
My kids tote around enough plastic bugs and farm critters. I think I’d be disturbed to find this in their pocket :-/

  2. Patty Byrd says:

lol…. I had to laugh. I can not imagine.

Picket Fence Romance

Amid the hubbub of our modern must-do-it-all lifestyles, there’s a longing that lingers for simpler schedules and down-home happiness. You know the feeling. I find it necessary to surround myself with little reminders—a rustic framed picture of a frontier woman here, an old cast-iron kitchen tool there. More than a collection of matching frills, they help me keep in touch with my inner farmgirl when the world around me is going a bit bonkers.

One of the most quintessential symbols of sweet and peaceful settings is the …

Angel Kisses

  1. CJ says:

Ahhh . . Mary Jane, love this post. I was soooooooooooooo honored to meet both Brian and Nick this past summer when Robin and I were able to come and stay at the B&B. I’m kinda partial to freckles since they “embellish” many in my family, including me.
Love the mugs too . . . tell Brian and Nick “HI” from me!
    CJ

  2. Amy says:

I would pretend it was for my husband..Michael Johnston 🙂

  3. Fabulous post! I’ve got freckles, too. In Afrikaans (South Africa) they are called ‘Sproetjies’… Pronounced: sprooo (as in scooter) eeee (as in bee) kiss (as in kiss) = sproooeeeeeekiss = Sproetjies… and is also used as a term of endearment… Hey MJ another word to add to ‘Gleaming word a week’! Best wishes. Catherine x

  4. Jan Culton says:

If it was my cup, it would stand for “I love my joe” as in coffee!! 😀

  5. Laurie Dimino says:

Okay` so the cups are too cute and freckles are even cutier! I do have to admit I am partial beacuse I am blessed with some freckles myself- as are both my son and daughter too.
    Smiles,

  6. Chrissy says:

When I was little, my Dad teased me about my freckles, saying he’d have to use some sandpaper to get them off. Now I remember the little grin he had when he said that. I also remember that it didn’t work and the look of shock on his face seeing the abrasions on my little nose.

  7. Kimberly says:

My father would call me a “freckle-faced strawberry”, wasn’t that a Kool Aid flavor at one time??? Anyways, didn’t appreciate my freckles as a girl as much as I do now!
    🙂
