Grandparents’ Day

Nanny Jane and Grandpa came to school with us!

Photo May 13, 7 39 58 AM

It was a rainy day so we didn’t have recess, but our teachers had plenty of projects for Nanny Jane and Grandpa to help with. Mia’s class put Nanny Jane to work because she was the only grandma at Mia’s table, so Nanny Jane had four grandkids in Kindergarten that day!

They even sent her home with some of their artwork on her folder, a collage of drawings of the classroom. What a fun day!

We Made the Cows Curious

We finally had a good snow day and spent the day at the farm.

By the second run, the cows came around to see what all the fuss was about.

We had a wonderful day and learned about our echos in the silence of the snow.

Daddy and Mia found out their weight together made them so much faster! Good thing they wore their trusty helmets.

Date Night with NannyJane

While Mom and I went back-to-school shopping, Mia got to spend the evening with NannyJane. When Mia arrived, Nanny was busy unloading her Jeep with some mysterious items.

Mia and Nanny made a terrarium! And look how cool it turned out! Nanny even thought to get Mia a mini watering can so she can diligently water it every day. Who needs a pet when you can have your own terrarium?

My favorites are the pink-and-green-leafed plants.

I sure am looking forward to Mia’s back-to-school shopping and my date night with NannyJane. I wonder what adventures we’ll have?

Jam-ee Glam-ee Camping

After a wonderful weekend spent under the stars, Mom and I were perusing our pictures and noticed a theme.

My cousin, Adria, somehow managed to get dressed on our first day, but if you look closely, you’ll see that I stayed in my jammies the entire time.

And my sister, Mia Marie, was definitely too busy with dish duty to worry about her attire.

By the second day, Adria had joined us!

And by the third day, little Alina had run out of clean clothes anyway. New trend: jam-ee glamping!

Farm Fun

We invited a few friends out to the farm this past weekend. We had SO much fun showing them around. We enjoyed all the usual attractions, but after eating a large amount of berries (blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries) from Nanny’s berry patches, a good round of creek jumping was a must.

Even Mom joined in on our fun, since she and her brothers did invent the sport.

Pretty fun being a farmgirl (and farmboy, in our friend Parker’s case).

Idaho

Road tripping through my favorite state!

The canola fields are the perfect place to stop and giggle.

We don’t have an ocean, but the beaches are beaches just the same to me and my sister.

There’s something about the sand in your toes, no matter where you are. My sis and I love our Idaho.

Gone Fishing

My sister and I caught our first trout of the season. We were supposed to be on our way home about the time I told my dad I wasn’t leaving until I caught a fish, and look who tried to eat my hook.

I was pretty proud when Dad grilled them up for dinner.

Mia was mildly concerned when she thought she was supposed to eat the tail! She seemed a little confused by a variety of things, including her Santa pjs in the middle of summer. 🙂

Pastoral …

It’s a big word for a couple of little girls, but it’s one we should know. It might just sum up our days at the farm with Nanny Jane and her cows.

Photo May 11, 3 11 16 PM

As an adjective, it’s used for or related to the keeping or grazing of sheep or cattle.

Photo May 11, 3 20 15 PM

Little Beaumont was curious about the wheat grass we brought. The sound of a bucket brings the cows. They always come running when a bucket clangs.

Miss Daisy was happy to stop and graze in one place while we gave her some love. But we think the noun definition of pastoral describes our days at the farm even more perfectly. Pastoral is a work of literature portraying an idealized version of country life.

Miss Daisy, who gave birth to her first calf, Beaumont, almost three weeks ago, stayed with us for almost an hour while we brushed and petted her. Her eye lids closed and her head got lower and lower like she was sleeping standing up. Eventually she started swaying back and forth as we brushed and loved her with our little hands. She loves to be loved! Ideal country life, yes.

Happy Birthday NannyJane & Carol!!

It’s no surprise that NannyJane and Carol share a birthday. They work together every day but before that they are BFFs in every way. And we hope they both enjoy a beautiful sunny day filled with flowers. Happy birthday!!

Terry said on April 10, 2014:

“Looks like you girls had F-U-N in NYC! Central Park was a wonderful place to visit & walk. My favorite piece of material is my first quilt that I made in my first quilting class. It is proudly displayed above my fireplace.”

Congratulations Terry! Watch for an email from the farm so my sis and I can send you a bedroom full of colorful chenille flowers.
