Big Sister, Little Sister

It’s that time of year …

My sister and I can’t wait for warmer weather to get outside to play. (Game of horseshoes … with a pair of warm winter gloves, anyone?) We’ve read all the books we own many times. We’ve played all of our board games over and over again. How about this for entertainment?

Stair sledding is way fun and the extra-big box Daddy found sure helped. And while we’re waiting for spring a tad bit impatiently, here’s one of our favorite reads (just in case you don’t have a massive box for stair sledding).

It’s a good reminder that my sis and I make a good team. And Mia loves the line that I will never be better than her at being the little sister. It’s true. She’s also more fearless and faster on the stair slopes!

Mia is Five!

My little sister is getting not so little!

Or rocking a pink stache! One thing is for sure, she will always be better than me at being the little sister. Happy birthday, Mia. We love you. Thanks for being my favorite little sister!

Playing in the Snow!

We’ve been getting a lot of snow, and from the sounds of it, we aren’t the only ones. But my sister and I have been making the most of this winter weather!

We were out the door before the sun rose in the morning. A good time to get some sledding in before we were off to school.

We can’t bring our sleds to school, but the slide will do just fine.

And after school, perfect for a sledding playdate …

Over the weekend, we enjoyed some daylight sledding with our baby dolls.

And we even ventured to the ice-skating rink for the first time.

It’s been an awesome week of winter. Hope you are enjoying yours.

What I Want to Be When I Grow Up

My kindergarten class spent an afternoon coloring our plans for the future. From firefighter, THE cashier, to football player… My classmates and I chose what we’d like to be when we grow up.

And my mom and a classmate’s grandmother made our artwork into this beautiful quilt!

Each class does an art project that gets auctioned off at our annual school fund-raising auction. The art projects are usually some of our highest bids and this one went for $1,600.00!

Helping Nanny with the Chores

My mom has been busy helping Nanny during the final stages of recipe testing for Nanny’s upcoming book. And if my mom’s been busy, my nanny has been even busier! So I thought it might be useful if my sister and I helped Nanny with her chores yesterday.

We love little Charlie! We could watch him for hours when he runs around and plays.

Our Thanksgiving Travels

Look who we found while shopping for a few Thanksgiving ingredients at Whole Foods last week…

Photo Nov 28, 9 47 26 AM

I should clarify… Mia hollered, “Nanny!” and ran up to give the snowman and Nanny a big smooch. After that excitement, I enjoyed a big salad for breakfast just because the salad bar at Whole Foods is so fun to pick from with so many options. Then we headed back to the house where we were staying to get cooking! (Excuse the quality of the photos of our pie; I’ll get better at taking pictures!)

The ingredients looked pretty yummy, but the end result was even better.

It Snowed!

While we slept, a blanket of snow quietly covered the Palouse.

There is something to be said for the quiet calm of a first snow…

… and the joys of interrupting it with the happiness of childhood! Happy first snow!!

Belle of the Ball

We stopped by the farm last week to meet the new baby cow, Eliza Belle. My sister and I had so much fun petting the new calf!

Gone Fishin’

Mia got a fishing pole for Christmas this year. Ever since then, we’ve been itching to get out and do some fishing.

Thanks, NannyJane!

The salad greens are going crazy in the greenhouse at the farm right now, so Mom and I make big salads every day for lunch. I’m known for my love of salads. Whenever I go out to eat in a restaurant, the waiters always look at my mom for confirmation that yes, indeed, the salad I just ordered is actually the only thing I’d like for dinner. I inherited my passion for salads from NannyJane and Mom!
