Ooooops, the Goops

Whoever said the subject of manners must be stodgy, serious, and stern?

Well, one thing is for certain: it was not the Goops.

Have you heard of them—the Goop family, that is?

Ah, shucks (blush)

It’s the tell-tale flush of red, the shuffle of feet, averted eyes, dropped head. Do you know someone who blushes?

Oh, my goodness! I blush all the time for so many different reasons. I always have and it’s always been embarassing, which makes me blush all the more! I even blush over things I think. Blushing has definitely been a detriment teaching my high school kids.

Sugar and spice. And everything nice.

Sugar & spice & everything nice, etc. Remember the poem? It may sound fluffy by today’s standards, and one could argue that it has an air of gender-bias to it, but I believe the lyrical list of things “girls are made of” had its heart in the right place. Who cares if it …

Potluck Etiquette & Holiday Recipe

Hubby and I hosted the MaryJanesFarm annual holiday party this past weekend. That night, curled up in bed together, we relived some of the many uplifting vignettes that soooooooooo warmed our hearts as we played a made-up game that was …

What a great idea for a get-together…one nice gift and a plate of goodies. Hmmmm, that might have to be on the to-do list for next year’s farmgirl Christmas shindig.

I always ask the Hostess too. I think it is good manners to offer to leave the dish and sometimes the Hostess wants the food but not the plate. I take the plate home in that case leaving the food behind.
Usually there is nothing of my dish left to take home though!

  4. Debbie says:

I’m just coming out from under all the tissue paper and ribbon to catch up with my sisters out west!
We had a pot luck Christmas dinner too along with a Yankee swap. That means we all got to go shopping in our basements for a gift to share! That always brings lots of laughs as well as returns from past exchanges. We were honored to hold on to my sis in laws peppermint brownies and a homemade pecan pie made by beach sister Lynn. Yum! Our bunch has been pot-lucking together for some years now. We usually ask each other who wants what and then we wash our own dishes and bring them home.
I love anything wrapped in a plain brown bag with green and red raffia! Nicely done MJ and Meg!
