  1. MICHELLE KIRBY says:

Currently it’s basil, because I love pesto & have been trying recipes.

    • RAINY HORVATH says:

It would be difficult to choose, but if I HAD to choose my favorite herb, it would have to be MINT. Why int? Because when it is growing in your garden and you go out to weed, the wonderful smell of mint wraps you in a sweet greeting. When I make my green tea and want to cut it’s bite, I run down to the garden and grab off a couple of leaves. They smooth out the flavor. When I want to add some zing to anything, I throw in a pinch of mint. It i sweet, versatile and easy to grow. I LOVE MINT!

  2. Amber Hersh says:

Peppermint is my most favorite! If there isn’t ever a more powerful herb to stand testament to the healing powers of herbs I don’t know what is. I suffer from indigestion to which I take something for daily. But sometimes my medication does not work and I will have a miserable night of acid reflux. Because I am on something for it I can not just take another medication ontop of it. Peppermint allows me to go out, pick a leaf or two, chew it and swallow it, and almost instantly calms my tummy. So I keep peppermint handy at all times.

  3. Nielsen,Winifred T. says:

It is hard to pick just one favorite herb. For me Basil is a huge favorite of mine for cooking. But, I love Lavender for scenting laundry soap, sachets, and other personal uses.

  4. amber says:

peppermint! I love it in everything from tea to my peppermint scented lotion.

  5. CJ Armstrong says:

My favorite is rosemary. So many uses and every time I smell it I just want to go cook something!

  6. LOVE….LOVE….LOVE the BASIL!

  7. tammy kavich says:

I am just learning to work with herbs. I have started with aloe, I am not sure if that is a herb but it is a good starting point. it has so many uses. I have learned how to extract it. I have grown basil, mint, dill, chives, parsley. I do dehydrate it and cook with them.

  8. Rachelle Hull says:

Rosemary…I just love to grow it in my home and run my hands through it for it’s fragrance!

    • Sue Stout says:

Oh my – how to pick just one – probably lavender!! Used in the bath just makes me smile and then add lavender lotion…..lucious…..

  9. Madelyn Shields says:

This is an extremely hard decision to make because I love all herbs and their individual fragrances. Lavender is a favorite of mine marching right along beside peppermint. I love cooking with many other delightful herbs but these tow run a close race. Their healing and refreshing aromas are inspiring. your product is both interesting and charming.

  10. Leisa Joan says:

I love Parsley! it goes with everything, smells great & can even be added to your bouquet. I grow it every year.

  11. Chrissy says:

Love lavender. I do try to grow it, although where I grow it is a little clayish and prone to wetness during the spring.

  12. Melody says:

Red Raspberry 🙂 because it has so many uses. My favorite story is from a woman i trained with in herbs. Her husband had burned his eyes by a flash on a welder. She made tea bags of red raspberry. His eyes were healed within a few days.

  13. Cathy R says:

I love herbs and really like the ones that come back year after year, lavender, thyme, mint and oregano. This winter the fresh dried oregano crushed with my fingers have spoken to me each day and I have used it in everything! Blessings!

  14. Melly Wilson says:

My favorite herb is rosemary. I have always loved it, but as I study to become an herbalist, I also learned that is was the favorite of a very dear and wise herbalist named Juliette de Bairacli Levy, who always planted rosemary and southernwood at her door, at many homes during her lifetime. The rosemary, because she said her children were always healed from their ills, when they bathed with it…and as I still seek to find southernwood (plant or seed!!), as it can heal/help/soothe both woman and animal when in hard childbirth! Oh I love the simple and profound beauty of rosemary’s healing and therapeutic ways!

  15. Krista says:

My favorite herb is basil because of all the many types of foods and cooking it can be used with. I also love how easy it is to grow and use both fresh and dried.

  16. Bobbie Calgaro says:

Mint, especially with chocolate. There’s just nothing that mint doesn’t add a sweet tang to.

  17. Marilyn Berger says:

My favorite herbs come right from my garden; lavender, mint, sage, rosemary and thyme.

    Marilyn

  24. Keri Smith says:

My favorite is rosemary!!! I also love basil,
    mint and lavender.

  25. Marilyn says:

I love mint. Endless varieties. Super easy to grow (almost TOO easy). I use it in tea, I use it for garnish, I dry it for gifting…and it looks so pretty in the garden! Chocolate mint, lemon mint, peppermint, spearmint. Even slip a leaf into your tennies during the warm weather for a little freshness. I also use peppermint essential oil — after cleaning the bathrooms at home, I use a few drops inside the toil tissue roll — every spin gives a little fresh zip to the air!

Did I say I like mint?

  26. Marjorie says:

My favorite herb is Rosemary. I love the fragrance and the taste. What’s more, it is a potent antioxidant and thus very good for our healtj.

  27. Heather Colbert says:

Rosemary. It reminds me of the family farm, mom’s hands and love. ♡

I love Lavender But Peppermint is my favorite! It is so great for my stomach problems and I love it in tea for an energy pick me up!

  31. Shannon H says:

Just one? Yikes! I think my favorite currently is chamomile. Its calming properties both to my mind and stomach make this herb a big player in my life right now!

  32. Well, that’s a tough question, I love so many herbs for a variety of reasons and favorites often depend upon my mood and the season. Pressed to pick just one though, I’d have to say peppermint, for it’s help in healing headache pain, relieving rhinitis symptoms, stomach discomfort and more… 🙂 Thanks for the wonderful giveaway opportunity!

  33. Gaye Durst says:

Calendula, because the first t8me I witnessed it’s healing powers I was an instant convert, to all things herbal. Although I had used herbal preps before I hadn’t yet sought them out. This was a copule of decades ago and I am still amazed by nature’s healing powers!

  34. Debbie says:

My favorite herb is lavender. Great for a great night’s rest.

  35. mackenzie says:

If I must choose just one, I’d pick chamomile. It is culinary, medicinal, and decorative. An exemplary herb!

  36. I have many favorites. However, I have to say that peppermint is my #1!! I use it most often for myself and my daughter when it comes to tummy issues. We also put it in our natural, handmade lip balm and foot soaks. It makes refreshing drinks, as well!!!

  37. Deborah Powell says:

I love both Lavender and Rosemary. Lavender is just about my favorite scent. Rosemary goes so well with so many dishes. I will go with two 1/2 favorites so I select them both.

  38. Carol Vagher says:

I love fresh basil! Cilantro is amazing as well!

Fresh basil 🌿 it adds so much to whatever you use it in!

  41. Dianna Hauf says:

Ahhh….So MANY wonderful herbs to choose from it is very difficult to say only ONE as my favorite!! I guess I’d have to go with experiences then and say Rosemary! Not only is the fragrance beautiful or that it’s flavors are awesome in cooking and baking BUT I use it for a mind clarifier! I have some in a roller ball for my daughter to take to school and place on her wrist periodically. It clarifies and increases her memory especially great for upcoming tests and such! I use it for creativity! I love how it refreshes and stimulates! ( and smells!!)

  42. Jesscia says:

Wow! Gorgeous products and lovely options! Lavender is my all-time favorite…

  43. Jen Parsley-Kellenbarger says:

My favorite herb Sage. It’s delicious and very medicinal. Smells amazing too. I use it in a special soup I have developed after many years of studying herbs and essential oils. My family and friends swear by it. We call it Medicine Soup. It always contains a bundle of sage amongst other powerful herbs. This soup when taken within the first day of a cold or flu every few hours will either eliminate your cold or flu or shorten its lifespan by many days. I developed it years ago and it works every time. Sage being one of the most important ingredients. It is antiviral, antifungal, antimicrobial and many other things. My first go-to.

  44. Maicie says:

Lavender is definitely my most used and easily grown herb.

  45. Alisa says:

Peppermint. I love making tea from it, using peppermint for colds, examining it while it grows and it’s always a delight to find some wild peppermint growing when I’m hiking.

  46. Rachael says:

I love lavender, I use it in my got buth to relieve stress after work 🙂

  48. Rachael says:

Lavender is my fave. I use it in my
Hot bath to relieve stress after a long day of work at the hospital.😊

  49. Teri says:

In food I love basil. For the scent I love lavender. It smells wonderful and is soothing. 🙂

  50. Taffy Kettenburg says:

My favorite is Rosemary. I love to bake a steel-head or salmon with a foot long sprig from my giant old faithful Rosemary bush. It is over 25 years old and has endured trauma from my daughters horses and drought. We don’t have much water so it’s on its own. Cuttings placed in a wall-pocket in my kitchen waft a lovely uplifting fragrance. Herbs are indeed a blessing to used!:)

  1. Nielsen,Winifred T. says:

I am a huge fan of cast iron cookware. My parents gave me a set of fry pans and my grandmother’s cornstalk pan when I got married. Recently, I found a dutch oven at Williams Sonoma on a huge discount sale and snatched it up as well.

My favorite dessert……….of course you know what it is. APPLE PIE!!!

    • Elizabeth Waters says:

Our favorite all-time family dessert is something I call Cran-Apple Crisp. It is the perfect blend of tart Granny Smith apples tossed with cinnamon and sugar and fresh cranberries, smothered in a topping that is the perfect blend of brown sugar, butter, oats and walnuts. It’s so versatile – great as a Fall dessert, as a holiday dessert or as a summer dessert, served warm of course with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yum!

  2. Chrissy says:

My “best favorite” dessert is coconut cream pie. It’s also my favorite birthday cake. And I have subscribed to you magazine for quite some time. I purchased the first magazine several years ago at Tractor Supply Company. I cried when I got that magazine home, because it was so nice to know there were other women who celebrated the farm lifestyle in heart as much “fer reals.”

  3. Rebecca Basham says:

Plain ‘ole ice cream – any flavor. Although if it’s vanilla, a little chocolate or caramel sauce is needed.

  4. Elisabeth Perkins says:

It is so hard to pick just one, 85 would have to be either, Chocolate Pie, Double Chocolate Chip cookies, or Vanilla Icecream with Chocolate Chips (noticing a trend?)…. pretty much anything chocolate I love. Dark Chocolate is my favorite (around 60-70% cacao)

  5. This is the perfect Valentine’s breakfast.

  6. Michelle Kirby says:

    Dark chocolate covered cherries…yumm!!

  7. MaryBeth Schwarz says:

We make a flourless chocolate cake that everyone loves. It is served soon after baking. Mary Beth

  8. Cathy R says:

Bananas foster over vanilla ice-cream, apple pie, fruit crisps, cherries jubilee, AND dark chocolate anything! HA! Blessings for a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  9. Summer M. says:

I love ice cream! Best dessert ever. Any kind, except strawberry, unless I make it myself. Yum-yum!

  10. Marilyn Berger says:

My favorite dessert is chocolate cheesecake. But lately, I have been making your “Cherry Cordials” with such rave reviews that I’m making three batches a week! Sending people out of church moaning in delight, or quilting, or meetings…same response. Thank you so much! I wish I could eat them all myself but it’s Christmas and fun to create a memory that will become a tradition every year.

  11. Honey says:

I bake a killer chocolate pie. It’s become a staple at Easter dinner and Thanksgiving.
My daughter’s last name is Love so this would be a fantastic birthday gift!

  12. Kelly says:

Brownies, chocolate chip cookies…basically anything including chocolate!

Anything with chocolate! brownies are always yummy!

  15. Stefanie says:

    German marble cake!

  16. Shannon H says:

My all time favorite dessert is a brownie trifle… layers of brownies, thick chocolate pudding, cool whip and heath bar crumbles repeated twice more making a triple layer of yumminess. Sadly I found out I am allergic to dairy, and I haven’t found a way to make it dairy free yet… but I will!

  17. Lana Wolford says:

Pecan pie is my birthday “cake!”

  18. Heather Majernik says:

My most loved dessert is Apple Pie!

  22. Mackenzie says:

My favorite dessert is rum balls!

  23. Nancy Couden says:

    Gingerbread and/or gingerbread cookies.

  24. Garnett Ashworth says:

    Poundcake…homemade…..lots of butter!

  25. Liz Hofacket says:

Strawberry shortcake the way mama made it when I was a little girl! She used the box of frozen strawberries (remember how the end had to be pried off?), those little store-bought shortcakes, and of course the whipped cream in a squirt can.

  26. Sandy Gullickson says:

I also have a hard time deciding on just one favorite dessert. I guess a homemade chocolate cake is close to the top of the list.

  27. Melody S says:

My mother-in-law’s carrot cake is unbelievably moist and by far my favorite dessert!

  28. Laurie Jelen says:

Hungarian crepes with apricot preserves and cheese with powdered sugar!!

  38. Ann Freda says:

  47. Diana says:

Fried apples, cooked in my cast iron skillet with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and a splash of maple syrup. I have cooked in cast iron pans since before I was married (over 38 years ago). Our 1st purchase before we were even married was a 4 in 1 cast iron pot. It is my favorite!

  1. Winnie Nielsen says:

We keep water saving shower heads on both of our bathrooms so that water waste is cut back while showering. Also,in our yard, we planted St. Augustine grass that is heat and dry tolerant for this part of Florida eliminating the need to water much when drought periods happen.

  2. Lisa Von Saunder says:

well. first of all I have many underground springs and have a waterfall on my property but the water comes from up the mountain where there is a lot of new construction so the water isn’t safe to use on my gardens. I use black plastic and red plastic mulch over my raised garden beds so they dont evaporate so fast. I don’t take long showers
I am mindful of all the water I use. I wear my garden grubbies until they are filthy so not much laundry either, haha.

  3. CJ Armstrong says:

Having grown up on a farm where we had to haul our water we learned all kinds of ways to conserve water. My dad was very strict about our usage and practices that have stuck with me all my life. There are many things I do but one thing I do is when I’m running water to wash dishes I fill the tea kettle with water while waiting for the hot water to come in to the sink.
    CJ

  4. Deborah Powell says:

We use water saving shower heads, a high efficiency washer to reduce water used doing laundry and plant native plants wherever possible to reduce the need to water in the gardens.

  5. June Rognerud says:

I have been using all of my bath water full of epson salt Soda and essential oil to water house plants and garden .My husband just scratches his head,my plants and garden are beautiful and happy.the dog gets bathed in their to.I also run water to my big Berkeley water filter till it gets hot before I start the dishwasher,I could go on and on with my conserving water .i always think before I waste.

  6. Rachelle Hull says:

I love to collect rainwater from my roof to water my perennials in the spring, summer and fall.

  7. Elisabeth Perkins says:

We have a HE washer that cuts bank on a lot of water usage! I know there are many more ways to conserve water that I need to practice more.

  8. Grace says:

We take short showers with water saving shower heads. Wash full loads of laundry. We use rain water barrels to refill animal troughs and heavily mulch the garden to prevent evaporation.

  9. We spend a lot of the Spring and Summer camping.
I become so use to “Cowgirl shower” I take them at home also.
    Saves water and energy.

  10. susan b says:

We put low flow shower heads in both showers and also switched out our toilets. Water some of my hanging plants in a stoppered sink so the water doesn’t run out the bottom. When my kids were younger they used the same bath water. Water left after a work out in our re-usable bottles is used to water plants.

  11. Linnie Nolan says:

We use a wringer washer 3 loads with the same water 🙂 ((whites~lights & darks)) also conserve dish water and bath 😉
    Have a Merry Christmas !!

  12. Lisa Bell says:

I use the dehumidifier water I collect to use in my washing machine.
Also, while waiting for the water to heat up in the kitchen spigot I collect it in a container to water plants and give to our animals.

  13. LAC says:

Let’s see…low flow showerhead, HE washer, mulch garden beds & rain barrel.

  14. Roberta Bacskay says:

I use the old water in the dogs’ dishes to water plants.

  15. When water melts in our cooler, I use the water to water our indoor plants.

  16. Teri says:

Low flow shower heads and toilets. Mulch on plants. 🙂

  17. Margo says:

We carry water in the car to refill our water bottles. Water savers on our toilets and shower heads. Cat water to water plants, cooking water for outdoor plants, use the fountain water when I change it out for plants.

  18. Lauren Akridge says:

High Efficiency washers, collected rainwater, and heavily mulching my plants are among the many ways that we try to conserve water

  19. Christy Wilkinson says:

We catch rainwater from our metal roof to use around the farmstead (gardens, animals, washing, etc). Before we had running water that was our only source.

  20. Summer M. says:

We drink as much of our own well water as possible! Bottled water is over-purified with disgusting chemicals, and it takes too much energy to produce.

  21. Honey says:

I have a raised bed garden with drip irrigation, purchased HE washer, only run dishwasher when it’s full, wash only large loads of clothes, and turn the water off when brushing our teeth.
These items would be so great to win, my job is as an itinerant braillist so I travel from school to school in our rural area to assist students. A good quality water vessel like Revomax would be essential to my day.

  22. Garnett Ashworth says:

I use all leftover water that is sitting around the house (my cups, pet bowls, etc) to water my plants. Also use water filling station at work to cut down on the bottled waters they offer.

  23. Garnett says:

I use all leftover water that is sitting around the house (my cups, pet bowls, etc) to water my plants. Also use water filling station at work to cut down on the bottled waters they offer.

  24. Susanne says:

We use an HE washing machine, I water plants with left over water, and we have our sprinkler system set for just minimal amounts in the summer – just enough to keep the grass green for the neighborhood CC&Rs.

  25. Carol D says:

I nag, and don’t feel a bit guilty about it!

  26. Linda Walker says:

I use “found” water to water plants. I use a Pure Wash system for laundry – uses only cold water and no laundry soap.

  27. Rhonda R Waldo says:

I have a HE washer and I am heavy on the mulch and have tried to pick the flowers and bushes that don’t require much water. If there has been quite a bit of rain I have used the water the sump pump kicks out to rinse my car off after I have washed it.

  28. Alicia Winkler says:

We collect rainwater for watering animals and gardens. Also use an HE washer. Our cabin doesn’t have water hooked up to it, so it will be challenging to figure out. I plan on a much more extensive gravity fed collection system and we will be using an outhouse with composting toilet!

  29. Lisa Wojcik says:

We use low flow shower heads, don’t let the water run unnecessarily and any water that is left behind in buckets from rain or melted snow we use to water the outside plants.

  30. DEE says:

I USE MY MOP WATER TO CLEAN THE TOILET.,THEN FLUSH EVERYTHING DOWN.

  31. Karen Bayless says:

We have 3 cisterns for collecting rain water with which we later water our potted plants and garden areas. In addition, we leave our irrigation off as much as possible in the winter, and during the rest of the year if we are so lucky to have rain (in CA!!!).

  32. Gail Richgels says:

We have dehumidifiers in our home. I use the collected water to keep my plants healthy and happy. Thank you! Gail Richgels

  33. Joyce Huber says:

Our source of water is collecting rainwater into our cistern, so I always have to conserve water. After I got married I first washed our clothes with a wringer washer. Then I got a water saver washing machine where the wash water went to a tub. You reuse the water in the tub for the next load. Now that the kids are grown and moved out I love my Bosch front loader washing machine. In 35 years we have not had to haul in water. We have come close, but it seems to rain just when we needed.

  34. Kelly says:

We make sure to reuse all cooking water as well as catching rain water for outdoor plants.

  35. Dorothy Otero says:

When I am waiting for the kitchen faucet to run hot water for dishes, I hold a half-gallon container under the spewing water until it gets to the hot temperature I am looking for. Then I set that water out and use it to water the houseplants (I have over a dozen.) and/or the outdoor plants.

  36. Brenda Lord says:

We have water saving shower head and we put a 5 gallon plastic bucket in our shower to catch some of the water and also cut off water while shaving.

  37. Rose Ann Wong says:

    – save a ‘container’ of water each time the toilet is flushed by keeping a jar or other container inside your toilet tank – the tank will fill and flush, but each time the jar in the tank conserves water. It adds up to be a lot considering how often toilets get flushed!

  38. Rebecca Walsh says:

I take quick showers in a water saving shower. I turn the water off when I brush my teeth and in the kitchen sink when cleaning it. Use rain water on the flowers and mulch on the flower beds.

  39. Allison says:

I love reading all the comments below! It may not seem like much but I no longer use the jets on our tub because it requires so much more water to fill it up past the jets.

  40. Cheryl Watt says:

I conserve water by using melted ice, or any water pulled and not used, it is recycled to water plants, do dishes, flush toilet, any thing not to be waste full. If it can be recycled or used its done in our house.

  41. Jane Ryan says:

I conserve water by washing full loads of cloths and dishes. I turn the water off while brushing my teeth and many more. I also found some new ways reading the comments!

  42. Sheila Jones says:

I read an article that says the average person uses 5 gallons when leaving water run during teeth brushing so I wet and turn off till rinse. Always wash full loads. I have sensitive bladder so frequent trips to private bathroom so I only flush every other unless company coming or bowel movement. Remember movie “Meet the Parents”, “If it’s brown flush it down, if yellow let it mellow.” Water saving is important to our environment. When we garden we have timer on water system when nature doesn’t cooperate with rain.

  43. Jane Demers says:

There are low flow “gadgets” on bathroom and kitchen sinks. Also use rain water in summer to water flower bed.

  44. dee mallett says:

Collect rain water to water our garden.

  45. Sierra says:

We purchase HE appliances to reduce amounts used. We also set timers when using water outdoors for garden and stock tanks so we don’t forget and leave them on, wasting water.

  46. Kat S says:

I, currently, take very short showers and less frequently. I’ve been incorporating this extremely rejuvenating spruce tea bathing. My skin has never left so healthy!

I, also, don’t run the tap unnecessarily and am going to be incorporating a rainwater catch system this year.

  47. Katie Silvers says:

In the summer time after my daughter swims in her kiddie pool we fill up our water jugs for the plants.

  48. One way i save water is by pouring water glasses into plants. I do outdoor plants with the dogs water as well.

  49. Toni H says:

I collect rainwater, water plants with the cat’s old water and use refillable water bottles, both gallon jugs and personal size.

  50. Kelly B says:

I collect rain water in barrels at the edge of my shed and barns and use it to water my three sets of chickens.

The farmgirl I would give it to dreams of a country life. A garden, chickens and a milk cow. She loves making things from scratch and living and communing with nature. Thanks for the chance to win Mary Jane! 🙂

  3. Teri Schneider says:

My daughter and her husband, newly married in April, are looking for a house with lots of land so that they can have farm animals. As a child, she helped her dad with the dairy farm we co-owned. She fell in love with the cows and also the bull we had. She even named him (Devon)! They are also looking to have a few sheep so that, in her words, “we can raise them, shear them, make yarn, and knit something for someone,” lol. I would love to give this book to them to get them headed in the right direction 🙂

  4. Diana nelson says:

I would give it to our library, we live in a small rural town. Many people have backyard farms & neighbors are often customers for milk, eggs, produce etc. The idea of permaculture is popular here. I think this book would be enjoyed.

I would give it to my good friend who lives in the country and already does much to show she has the soul of a farm girl. She bakes her own bread. She teaches Tai chai and mindfulness parenting. She sews, cooks and puts in a garden. I can see her having a milk cow.

  6. Lynn Martin says:

My friend Suzy has some ‘working Jersey girls’ that give the best, creamiest milk!

  7. Morgan Wilson says:

(joking…I’d keep it. It’s the only one of the books I don’t have).

  8. Linda Gardner says:

My daughter moved to Pennsylvania last year to live on a dairy farm with her future husband. He has been a dairy farmer all his life. She is very happy and will always continue to live on a dairy farm from this day forward. She says her bucket list is complete. Nothing like this mom. The best place to be. My husband and I have visited them several times and she sure is right. We have never seen her so happy. This book would make a great gift for her. Thank you for the opportunity.

  9. Stephanie says:

My sister… She has owned goats before without using their milk, and would love to own a cow.

  10. Marci Dodd says:

I would love this book…it is on my wish list. But my kindred-spirit, farmgirl friends Kim or Jen would love it too.

  11. Evelyn Pizzala says:

My Mom who is 92 yrs old grew up on a dairy farm and always had a cow as I was growing up. We always had milk, butter and cream. It was a good life for her and I.

  12. Lorri Oglesby says:

I would give it to my daughter Kristy

  13. Deon Matzen says:

We make ricotta, cream fraiche, and yogurt weekly and love cows milk. I can remember buying a gallon from a neighbor each week and carefully separating the cream from the milk so we would have the thick, yellow clotted cream to have on strawberries from our garden. Yum. Miss it now as many home cowherds (this is a person who tends cows) can no longer sell raw milk off their farms in the county where I live. We still use a lot of milk and tonight it is in our mashed potatoes for dinner, with a dollop of cream, for sure

  14. Carolann Tracy says:

My Dad is buying my Mom a milk cow for Christmas this year. I’m sure she would love this book 😊

  15. Angel Kendrick says:

I would gift it to a coworker who recently moved to a rural area with a dream of farming and the recipes would be fun for us to do together , we love to get together and cook

  16. Sara says:

I would love having this book to live out the country life to its fullest with gardens and cows, and so anxious to try those dairy recipes!

  17. I would just love to win your book and get lost in it!

  18. Michae says:

My wife is determined to get a milk cow. I was able to protest… until our neighbor got one. Now it’s more urgent than ever.

  19. Leisa Joan says:

I really can’t have a cow, but would love to have your book to add to my collection. It is on my Christmas list. We had cows growing up, and I remember those days fondly.

  20. susan b says:

I would love this for myself. I grew up surrounded by several cattle farms that edged our property! My sisters and I would love the calves and would see how close we could get to the bull without it spying us!

  21. Becky Davies says:

My daughter.. She’s a farm girl and has had milk goats, chickens, and cows, but, not a milk cow. It’s time. Haha

  22. Linnie Nolan says:

To my Granddaughter Natalie who insists we need a American Miniature Jersey! She is 12 and we have Nubian dairy goats! Do you think we should add ?? You just never know I’m thinkin more yummy cheese and Mmmm yummy real clotted cream! Convince me!~ hee hee! 🙂 😉

  23. Teresa says:

My farmgirl dreams of a jersey and a guernsey to start a small artisan cheese business.

  24. Camela Engbrecht says:

I would love to have a milk cow some day. I love cows and always thought they are beautiful.

  25. Susanne says:

We had a milk cow when I was in my teens and I loved it! I live in town now but would love to read this book. I also have a friend that we “farm-sit” for once in awhile which gives me the treat to get to milk again. I would “share” this book with her. =)

  26. Gaye Durst says:

I don’t already have it so I’d be gifting it to this wanna be farmgirl! Who has had dreams of just a few acres, to homestead on. Of course I’d gift it when I found someone else with the same ideas.

  27. Jaylyn Morehouse says:

Well…If I win I would probably keep the book for myself! I’ve already named my future milk cow, Paisley 🙂 I can’t wait to start making my own cheese and dairy products.

  28. Hannah Strong says:

I would share the book with my best friend Marissa. She already has a Jersey named Madeline that she milks. “Maddie” is pregnant and I’m wishfully thinking that her babe will be mine, as we are moving to our own farm in two weeks. My husband isn’t convinced yet that its the right time for a cow but maybe in a year when the calf is ready to be weaned I can convince him otherwise.

  29. Cindy Jacobson says:

I will admit that I would like it for myself. We, my parents and I, live on a farm together. We raise our own chickens and turkeys. We have also raised pigs and cows for meat. My mother milked a cow when I was a little girl. We have a feed store and sell raw milk from a licensed farmer. As much milk as my dad drinks he thinks we should get a milk cow.

  30. Summer M. says:

I would gift it to my Aunt, who has goats and makes goat cheese. Or I would give it to my cousin, who has milk cows and loves them like her own family!

  31. Carol D says:

    I am that dreamy farmgirl.

  32. Marsha Rogers says:

I have been married to a farmer for 43 years. We used to milk Holstein cows on our small farm of 80 acres and retired from milking cows a few years ago. We have a small herd of Gelveigh Beef cows, all females, that are wonderful mothers. Some of the beef cows have too much milk that could be used in cheese production. It has been a dream of mine for several years to learn how to make cheese. The recipes would help me make this wish come true. I am also retired and would love to start a business here on our farm.

  33. Joni says:

I would gift the book to my dearest friend, Deb….she has chickens, and would love a milk cow too!

  34. Joyce Huber says:

I would gift the book to my oldest daughter.

  35. Kathy Wright says:

The farm girl I would give it to longs for a simpler time and place of her childhood. Growing up on a dairy farm where meals were served up with freshly churned butter and rich cream adorned hot
breakfast cereals. Homemade ice cream was one of the best things about summer😊.

  36. dee mallett says:

I would love to win this book for myself. We have a mini farm, I have been purchasing raw milk and have just started experimenting making a variety of cheese.

  37. Jean L. Fox says:

This would be for me. I lived on a farm as a young girl and have memories of many of the things my mom and dad did – had chickens (fresh eggs), pigs, cows for milking, etc. I was very young when they split up, but I carry the memories with me and practice my country style living the best I can in the city. I love your magazine. Thanks!

  38. Keri Smith says:

    My lovely sister in-law!

  39. Sierra says:

I would love this book, as I just purchased a milk cow this past spring, but my friend Chandra would also love it as she makes cheese!

  40. Carol S says:

I keep looking at your Milk Cow Kitchen book and dream of the day I will have a milk cow of my own. I limited my farm dream to chickens, goats, dogs and cats. Did not know how I could include a cow in that dream until I saw your book description. My dining room is “dressed” in cow. I want to be a pampered, content, cow in my next life. Would love the book for me!

  41. Dana McCleese says:

I would give the book to my daughter Anna. She will be 19 in March and she loves farm life and animals. We have a small farm with 2 cows and 2 calves, 2 goats that she showed for FFA and the buyer gave them back to her. Of course she wouldn’t resale them! She wants chickens now and wants a dairy goat and milk cow in the future. She also has 1 horse (Sugar) and a miniature mule (Otis) who is blind in one eye. We subscribe to your magazine and love it. We also have purchased your Glamping book.
So yes a vintage camper is on my daughter’s want list also. She has a 1967 Chevy pick-up (her 16th birthday present) that she would pull camper with.
Thanks for opportunity to win the Milk Cow Kitchen Book!!!

  42. Kat S says:

I would enjoy this lovely book myself as I’ve always dreamed about having a lovely long haired highland cow. I share my library with everyone who is interested though and this book would make a very welcome edition to us all!

  43. Katie Silvers says:

I would most certainly have to gift this to my mother.

  44. Toni H says:

I would love the book myself, the only Mary Jane book I don’t yet own… But, if I have to share 😉 I would give to my friend Darlene, she’s had cows as long as I’ve known her, is definitely a Farm girl and a very sweet lady!

  45. Helen Dunn says:

The farmgirl I would give this book to is my youngest daughter. As the mother of 4, she inspires me everyday, managing a farm with her Farrier husband and homeschooling her children(ages 2 – 7). They own a miniature Jersey cow, that she milks every morning. She makes yogurt, cheese, butter, and ice cream. It’s such fun to watch them living their dream.

  46. Jana Blackwood says:

I would love the book myself but would share with my grand-daughter to pass along some great wisdom.

  47. Teri says:

As much as I would love the book for myself (selfish much?), one of my besties recently added a milk cow to her farm family… she could really use the book. As a side note, I’m quite certain some of the cheese and butter made from recipes in the book will be shared with one of her besties… especially if that bestie gifts her with such a fab book!

  48. Allison Rosch says:

My sweet daughter Vivian wants to grow up and be a ‘cow doctor’…this would be perfect for her and her love of cows.

  49. Terri says:

Well, I guess I’m wishing my life away, but when I retire I’m looking forward to becoming a full time farm girl.

  50. Betsy says:

The farm girl I would give it to is just starting out she has a few chickens and a milk cow and some guineas. She’s still learning all the ins and outs and having a blast ! Thanks for the chance to win.

    • Bonnie says:

My good friend always wanted a farm but could never afford one. She worked at a local goat farm and the owner would give her goat milk which helped with the food bill. She is a farm girl by heart. She is a Mennonite and would love to read Milk Cow.

She made many quilts over the years, and as my sister and I watched and learned, she inspired us to make quilts, as well as sew our clothes and those of our kids. She makes quilts today, and has warmed many, many relatives with those quilts. She is truly a pioneer and an inspiration for all her grandchildren and nieces.”

Thank you to the hundreds of women who responded with such thoughtful comments! If you’re one of our winners, keep an eye out for an email from the farm.

Mary-Jane’s farm has inspired me in so many ways on my own farm. This past summer I made slip covers for my patio furniture out of old quilt tops that I bought at an auction for 2 dollars for the whole box. My patio turned into my oasis after farm work. I would take my spinning wheel outside and spin and admire my sewing efforts at the same time.

  14. Loni McDonald says:

My husband & I were cleaning out one of the storage sheds on our property. He came out holding a tool called a cultivator with no handle. We decided to make it into a hanger for towels or something and hang it somewhere. He sanded it and painted it flat black and put a old short handle on it. It looked so cute but old. 27. Patty Anne says:

  33. Linda Stark says:

I used an old ironing board to make my garden lady. Her name is Maggie and I put her in the middle of my garden to share with the birds, bugs, the neighbors, my grandchildren, and me. Her dress is red, he hat is green (an older bird feeder part), the top of her hat is a toy bird. She holds a basket in front with little rubber duckies. I dress her according to the weather. I love to find new ideas for old “things”.

  34. Linda Talbert says:

I found an old rusty piece of tin pipe out in the back yard. I’m using it as a sign on my chicken coop. The rust holds chalk like a blackboard!

  35. Elaine Hal Ford says:

I live in a slipping crowded urban suburb and walk my doggies up and down the alleys behind the houses. I found a pair of nearly new men’s leather lace-up oxfords (perhaps they were too small and couldn’t be returned or maybe he left and she didn’t want to be reminded of him), brought them (the lovely shoes) home, filled them with potting soil — tongue pulled WAY forward first — and have had pink, mauve, and jade green succulents every year for a decade! Yay!

  36. Cheryl Jacobs says:

I used an old door and some left over cedar post as legs to make a couch for my back porch. Everybody loves it

  37. DALENE HAMILTON says:

I love the magazine and look forward for it to come in the mail. It has made me start looking at campers and recycling them. I’d love to have an airstream camper and make it into my sewing fantasy world.

  40. Mary Vono says:

I have finally found a magazine that I love cover to cover. I collect anything and everything. Recently I re-purposed old fashioned tomato cages into a lamp.

  41. Sharon says:

I love MJF magazine because FINALLY I have a base line photo to describe to my husband….MY WONDERFUL IDEAS. We are building a large shop/home and we are trying very hard to re-purpose and re-use. Last year my husband thought we should renew our commitment to Hosting Thanksgiving.( We are living on site in a trailer. Our 6 month build has turned into 4 1/2 years. We are still having fun. ) I explained that we didn’t even have an oven large enough for a turkey. Well long sighs, ragged thoughts and deep prayers…..we were gifted with a perfect working stove/oven. We sent all the leftovers home with our single guys….EVERYONE WAS THANKFUL!

  42. Miley Rose says:

I had been thinking for a long time about upcycling. After reading a few issues of MaryJanesFarm I was inspired to take my thoughts and put them to action. I recycled two old twin bed box springs and very large food cans (saved by the workers in my school cafeteria) and turned them into planters. The bed springs are on my fence, all spray painted, and the cans fit into some of the slots on the springs. I spray painted the cans in different colors to add spots of brightness. I finally got them up in August so will have to wait until next year to see the cans full of flowers and herbs but every time I look at my upcycled creations I smile.

  43. Katherine Neuschwander says:

Upcycling – Your magazine makes me realize it isn’t as hard as it sounds. So many everyday items that can be used for something so different but so helpful. Thank you for all that is in your magazine!

  44. Jodie says:

Your magazine is full of brilliance. Just a few examples I’ve taken from your magazine includes upcycled t-shirts into skirts, old rusted cookie sheets into chalkboard, and my Christmas tree trunk into a front door wreath…all because of MJF. Thanks!

  45. Alicia Winkler says:

I suppose the only real up cycling I do is turn my feed bags into grocery totes! Sure are handy bags!

  46. Teresa Dr bruin says:

Love to bicycle as much as possible. Love to go to library book sales for books, go to thrift stores for clothes and other stuff and hate to throw this vs away that still has some use to it. My favorite is to take greeting cards received, cut them up and make new cards out of them. Would love to make boxes with them and yarn, but haven’t the instructions

  47. Kim Garza says:

My husband made me a pallet tree to hang my handmade ornaments on.

  48. Cathy Lounsbury says:

I cut the legs off a chair and cut the seat down to 6″ then hung it on the wall for a shelf. It’s perfect!

  49. Amanda Munford says:

Your inspiration has helped me to look outside the box and inspire the volunteers and patrons that frequent the non profit thrift store I run. I’ve been able to save many items from the trash by either changing them myself or sending the items to their new homes with inspiration for the new owners. I consider it saving the world one piece at a time.

  50. Carolyn Brill says:

I seen Your magazine into my TSC store and fell in love! I love recycling and you have great ideas. The piano you recycled was great!
