Today’s Recipe: In the Mood for Chicken?

Are you in the mood for chicken? I was last week. But not just any chicken. I wanted two different kinds of chicken. (The leftovers from my afternoon in the kitchen were amazing.) I’m now FAMOUS for FABULOUS chicken. Who knew?) Our local co-op sells ready-made breaded chicken breasts, but I wanted to see what I could come up with on my own. After I gathered up all my ingredients, I was on a roll.

Today’s Recipe: Portuguese Fish Stew

Much to my vicarious delight, vacation and work commitments recently took Alyson Oüten to Europe for a month; from Spain to Portugal to Italy and Israel. (If you read my magazine or CLUCK newsletter, you’re already familiar with Alyson.)

    I Love Clothespins. I tried to order the free sample offer from their website, but Paypal wouldn’t put the order through with a 0 in the price field even with the $3.50 shipping. I use them for many other purposes than hanging clothes. I clip my cracker and chip or any other food bags closed , when sewing I clip my pattern pieces together as used just in case I need to refer to the piece again. I clip my daily notes together, I clip my coupons together. I have one clipped onto the edge of a box lid turned upside down with any reminders I may need. And my binder clip holding cables for I-pod and camera hangs on the front “leg” of another clipped onto the box lid (The box lid holds small note pads and stickie pads and is on a shelf beside my computer). If I walked through my house I would probably be reminded of others, but this is seeming long. Oh One more- holding a recipe card!
    I love your mags and have subscribed from the beginning and now glad to check out the blog. Thanks for a wonderful and inspirational way of life. Mary Jean

All grown up

I went to our local farmers’ market this morning with my mother (Meg), sister Mia, and Nanny (MaryJane). BTW, I love it that my mother lets me choose my own style. I heard my mother say to Nanny, “I really don’t need anything this morning, it just makes me happy to be here with everyone.”

      Why, thank you! (And Meggie thanks you too but she isn’t here today.) Customizing WordPress like we did was no easy feat. First, Meg and I sketched out how we wanted it to look. We also dug around for clip art in old magazines and books to help us demonstrate to our graphic designer, Denali, what we had in mind. Then, she turned on her magic to create each layered layout/category. That took a couple of months on and off (we get interruptions to say the least). Next, Gabe fed what Denali came up with into WordPress. That took FOREVER, as in two months easy, because he had to learn from scratch. Putting a WordPress blog up isn’t so hard but one with so many categories and a certain look isn’t commonly done; it required lots of programming. Pages and pages of jibberish behind every comma, graphic, sentence. It’s like looking under the hood of a car, lots of wires going every which way. Anyway, we LOVE having a journal and sharing it with you is pure fun. We get to brainstorm ideas together and then step back to gander. It’s like scrapbooking on a daily basis. The neat thing about WordPress are the site stats. We’re getting about 6,000 views per week, 5,666 is the average to be exact. Our biggest day was 12,053 views! So far, we’ve posted 343 comments. That’s exciting for us. Our next big design project (that we’ve already embarked on) is to bring you along with us. Check out http://www.yougabgirl.com. But wait, do you like the domain http://www.girlsgabbing.com better for an umbrella website? In other words, we’re planning a BIG online party and you’re invited. We’ll even help you plan your outfit.

Today’s Recipe: Smooth Move

I’m sure you know that old trick about freezing bananas that have seen better days. You hold onto them until the banana bread bug bites you bad, and then you embark on a marathon baking session.  Well, I’m a devotee of this method—it’s as if the freezer performs some magic to transform fruit that looks too ripe to even touch into an exotic delicacy.

    Ty for the great recipes. I usually start out my morning with 2 C. soy milk, 2 carrots, 2 big handfuls of spinach, about 1 cup of fresh broccoli, 1 banana, and whatever frozen fruit is in the upstairs freezer. Blended this is enough for 2 people. Now with your recipes, I can change it up a bit.

Root Beer Floats

For no apparent reason (other than I think my employes are fabulous), I pampered them yesterday by delivering root beer floats to each and all. Mmmmmmmm, Julie’s organic ice cream, artisan root beer, spooned with love. Whatever floats your boat. Mine is all the work my employees accomplish!
